Greetings!

Boy Scouts, Venturers and their parents can learn about attending the 2013 National Jamboree,

7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013

Dr. John Weltmer, who attended four World and National Jamborees, will lead the council contingent. He will share information on,
  • Visiting historic sites before the Jamboree
  • Fees and personal gear for the trip
  • Adult volunteer leaders who will guide the experience
The National Jamboree opens on July 15 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia and runs through July 24. The Boy Scouts of America designed and built this high adventure base to offer whitewater, climbing, zip lines, mountain biking and more. Troop equipment and tents are provided.

More than 100 youth members are registered and a few spots remain.

Challenge Course & Climbing Instructors Needed: Rock climbing, multiple zip lines, canopy tours and challenge courses need trained staff for the National Jamboree. Those events also need Scouters to help who are not trained instructors. If you or a Scouter friend would like to be part of this historical event, visit the staff section on the jamboree's website. If you know Scouters who would have fun being part of the jamboree staff, share this story with them. Plus, time commitments are flexible. For more information, contact Terry Pogue, or 314-780-9023.

Leader Tip

Holiday Candle Cups
Materials: Small glass candleholder or glass baby food jar, colored tissue paper, warm water, white school glue, foam brushes, small votive candle or tea light.
Tear tissue paper into small pieces. Make a decoupage solution by combining equal parts of warm water and white glue to create a milky paste. Brush the surface of the glass with the decoupage solution. Apply pieces of tissue paper onto the glass, being sure to overlap the edges of the pieces. Continue around the entire candleholder until it is completely covered. Once it is covered, brush on a final coat of decoupage solution to seal down the edges of the tissue paper.
Use tissue paper colors that reflect the Tiger Cub family holiday celebration. For Christmas, use red and green tissue paper. For Hanukkah, use blue and white paper. For Kwanzaa, use black, red and green.
