Researchers from Harvard-affiliated Hebrew SeniorLife Institute for Aging Research (IFAR), in collaboration with scientists from a number of international institutes, have identified a genetic variant regulating a gene responsible for bone mineral density and fracture risk. Findings from this study-funded in part by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are published in the journal Nature and could lead to interventions that may prevent fractures in older adults.

Kavod residents had the time of their lives on a cruise to Alaska in early September. The week-long trip was staffed by four Kavod staff members. Six residents as well as ten non-Kavod residents participated. Most participants on the trip were in their 70s and 80s, plus resident and non-resident family members joined the cruise.
Sitrin to Establish Upstate New York's First Long-Term Care Program for ALS and Huntington's Disease

There is an urgent need in Upstate New York for specialized long-term care for people with ALS and Huntington's Disease (HD). Sitrin is answering that need. Expected to open in early 2016, Sitrin's new Neurodegenerative Disease Specialty Program - Sitrin NeuroCare - will be the first and only one of its kind in Upstate New York to provide long-term care for individuals with ALS and HD.

At exactly 4 p.m., the CEO walks to the elevator, punches numbers on the keypad and waits for the doors to open to the third floor.

He steps off, glides to the center of the room where a dozen or so men and women sit waiting, whips out his Martin and Co. acoustic guitar, a 25th wedding anniversary gift from his wife, and begins singing: "He's got the whole world in His hands / He's got the whole wide world in His hands."
