"Read it and Reap"
a monthly book recommendation from Don Shulman

"The Worlds of Sholem Aleichem"
by
Jeremy Dauber
Even though I have not yet finished this book...I offer a very strong recommendation on this publication. This is the man who created Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. Upon his death in 1916,  the man born as Ben Sholem Rabinovich was eulogized by the New York Times as the "Jewish Mark Twain".

Who is a Jew in 21st century America? Is membership in "the tribe" defined by shared religious beliefs? Common ethnic backgrounds? Familiar wedding rituals and holiday celebrations? Similar tastes in culture and cuisine? Or something else entirely? And what do the widely varying answers to those questions mean for the future of the American Jewish community?  This kindle download for $ 1.99 is an 80+ page narrative and deeper explanation of the recently released Pew Study. This research will be a focus at our Association Roundtables in Jacksonville this spring.
