Hi y'all

I'm back.

Thank you to my readers who emailed to ask about the September newsletter. I have two reasons why it hasn't arrived in your mailboxes until now. The first reason is that I was on vacation and, frankly, I got behind on my usual To Do list. Deadlines came first, so getting books finished became my priority. The second reason is that, since I have two releases this month, I decided to do a combined newsletter! That means twice the excerpts and twice the reading.

Enjoy the excerpts. Oh and be sure to check out the vacation pics below.

(Wolf Packs of Fate 7)
About TAKING THEIR MATE ~

Werewolf Curt Walton and his werewolf cousins, Eric and Dane Hill, have their sights set on the beautiful new bartender at the Wolf's Den bar. They're about to make their move when a man who has followed her from Hollywood shows up and claims she's his lover. Krystal denies she cares for the man, but can they believe her?

When a small girl goes missing, everyone in Fate searches for her. Just as Kristal's ready to join the search, disregarding her men's warnings to stay home, her so-called lover throws everyone a hard curve.

TAKING THEIR MATE
(Wolf Packs of Fate 7)

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Krystal lowered her gaze, busying herself with getting another bottle for the customer next to him.

"Bullshit. Can you take a break?" He'd already screwed up. Instead of calling her on her lie, he should've eased into his questions.

"I can't. It's too busy."

"Clinton can cover." Which wasn't really true. Clinton was working hard and fast. Without Krystal, he'd be swamped.

"No. He can't." She picked up another bottle and popped the top off.

"Who was that guy, baby?" He would've sworn she cringed at the word baby.

"There are a lot of guys here, Eric." She set the bottle in front of another man and scooped up his payment.

"You know who I'm talking about." He'd lowered his voice enough to bring out a touch of his wolf's commanding growl.

She paused, then stared at him. "He's an old acquaintance, that's all."

"From Los Angeles?"

"Yes." Back to work she went.

She was busy, yes, but she was using it to keep from looking at him. "An acquaintance? That's all? And he wound up in Fate?"

Her grip tightened on the next bottle, her knuckles turning white. "Eric, I really don't have time to talk. I'm sorry. He's just someone I know."

"An old acquaintance who you don't like much from what I saw."

Her blue eyes clouded and he was positive she was going to tell him a lie. "You're right. I don't like him much. But he's gone now. He was just passing through."

"How'd he know you were here?" Fate wasn't exactly on a well-traveled road or near a highway.

"He came in by chance and saw me." She shrugged, yet the gesture was stiff. "That's it." A frown darted between her eyes. "It doesn't matter, Eric. I'll talk to you later, okay? Right now, I need to concentrate on work."

As much as he disliked the idea, he sensed she wasn't telling him everything. Every inch of him, every bit of his inner wolf wanted to grab her and shake her, to demand she tell him what was going on. Instead, he gritted his teeth and kept silent as she took another customer's order.

I wish I'd cornered the guy before he left.

Maybe I still can.

Pushing through the crowd at the bar, he hurried toward the front door. The night air hit him as he pushed the doors wide and strode into the parking lot. Shadows lengthened from the overhead lights cutting across the many cars parked in the lot. Shifting just enough to bring out his sensitive eyesight, he searched, hoping his luck would be good.

There he is.

He practically ran trying to catch up with the man. "Hey, you."

The man whipped around, his eyes wide, a suspicious expression darkening his already shadowed face. "Who are you?"

"I'm a friend of Krystal's." The less information he gave, the better. "And the same question back at you. Who are you?"

He hated the guy's cocky smirk. If only he could shift and wipe it off his face.

"I'm a very close friend of hers." The smirk widened. "Actually, I'm more than a friend."

"Yeah? She's never mentioned you." The man made his skin crawl.

"You know how she is. Tightlipped. I'm Denny Shipley, her boyfriend."

Eric stared at Denny's outstretched hand, too stunned to move. "Her boyfriend? Bullshit."

Denny lowered his hand, but the smirk stayed in full force. "Believe what you want, but why else would I come all the way from Los Angeles to this hick town?"

"Again, she never mentioned you." His gut flipped over. The idea of a creep like that touching her made him want to hurl.

"That's strange, considering you're friend. Doesn't matter, though. She'll be coming back home with me soon enough." His pretended concern was nauseating. "Wait. She didn't tell you that, either, huh?"

"That's bullshit, too. She would've told me. Even she hadn't, the news would've gotten around town by now." He wanted to bite off his tongue for saying anything, much less playing along with the guy's lies. He had to be lying. If he wasn't... "I saw her. She didn't look like she was happy to see you."

That got the man's attention.

"We're going through a rough patch like a lot of couples do from time to time. You know how it is. We break up, but we always get back together. We can't stay away from each other." His dark eyes glistened with animosity.

"Looks like I'm calling bullshit for a third time."

"I don't know why I'm doing this, but here. Take a look." Denny pulled his wallet out of his back pocket, flipped it open, and eased a photograph out. He held it up, giving Eric a good look. "That's us back when she was working at the strip club. That's how we met, you know. Oh, sure, I was one just one of her customers at first, but I was the one she fell in love with."

Eric was certain he was going to hurl now. Or shift and tear Denny's head off. Somehow, he managed to keep from doing either one. Instead, he squinted and stared at the photo. Krystal sat on Denny's lap. She was wearing a very skimpy bikini that didn't leave much to the imagination. Neon lights as well as other people, some of the women topless, were in the background. He wanted to believe the photo was fake, but couldn't.

It's real. That's our Krystal.

"Have a nice night, man."

What could he do but let him walk away? As much as Eric wanted to pounce on Denny, he couldn't. What if he was telling him the truth? Did Krystal and Denny really have a relationship? He hadn't believed Denny, but the photo had thrown him. She'd looked happy enough. Had she and Denny been together? Were they going to be together again?

He wasn't sure how long he stood there. Long enough to see Denny get into a car and drive off. Long enough for Dane and Curt to come looking for him.

"What are you doing out here?" Dane took a swig from his bottle of beer.

"Yeah, man. I thought we were going to stick around until Krystal got off work?" Curt followed Eric's gaze down the row of the parking lot. "What's going on?"

"We may have to rethink choosing Krystal as our mate." He'd barely gotten the words out before he spun around and stalked toward his pickup.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Curt caught up to him.

"We've already chosen her. She's our mate. What's gotten into you?" Dane flung his bottle away, landing it in a nearby garbage can.

"She worked at a strip joint."

"Where? In Los Angeles?" asked Curt.

"So what if she did? I don't give a damn what she used to do," added Dane.

"I don't either." That wasn't what had bothered him about the photo.

"Then there's something else." Dane grabbed his arm, turning him around to face him. Anger and confusion scrunched his features into a hard mask. "Spit it out."

"She already has a man." He jerked his arm away.

"What? Who?" Curt had continued to chase after him.

"Her boyfriend showed up. He said they're not together right now, but that they will be. Said that they break up and get back together all the time."

Curt dropped back. "Fuck. You've got to be shitting me."

"I wish I was." Flinging open the driver's door, he pulled himself into the cab and turned over the key. "Get in or find your own way home."

Vacationing at Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands, Washington
It's very rare for me to find a place I would love to visit time and time again, but I think I've found one. Recently, my husband and I went to Friday Harbor, a very small town located in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington state. It's not easy to get there, but it's worth the trip flying into Seattle, then driving up to the lovely town of Anacortes. From there, visitors can either walk onto the ferry or, like us, rent a car and drive it onto the ferry for the hour long trip to the island.

Once at Friday Harbor, we began doing what we'd gone there to do: relax. Our hotel sat on the highest peak overlooking Friday Harbor Marina. From there, we could open up the sliding glass doors and hear boats, including the ferries, from our window. A gentle breeze kept us cool even though our hotel is one, if not the only one, with air conditioning. With a mild climate, air conditioning is rarely needed.

While at Friday Harbor we visited the Whale Museum, ate a ton of delicious seafood, visited an alpaca ranch, and even went whale watching. Trust me, if I could've have extended our visit indefinitely, I'd still be there, one of only 6,000 residents of the island.

Check out the orca, one of many we saw that day.

HEART OF A WOLF
(Wolf Packs of Fate 8)
About HEART OF A WOLF ~

Maddie Connor moves to Fate to renew her relationship with her sister, Stella. She's ready to do whatever it takes to heal their strained relationship. Come hell or high water, she'd determined to make amends.

Werewolf brothers Shane, Brandon, and Braxton Lark know Maddie's their mate as soon as she walks into the Wolf's Den. They come on strong, and although she should run for the hills, she can't help be drawn to the aggressive men.

Maddie never expects Stella to tell her that werewolves exist. Not only is Stella living with three werewolves, but she's become a werewolf, too. As if that's not enough, Stella tells Maddie that the Lark brothers are shifters and that they want Maddie as their mate. She's stunned, yet, strangely intrigued.

Should she believe Stella? Or is her sister trying to exact revenge for Maddie's past mistake?

HEART OF A WOLF
"Maddie, people in Fate are different. Very different." She paused and bit her lower lip. "They're not all human."

Stunned, Maddie could only stare at her sister. Surely, she'd laugh and say it was all a joke.

"Maddie, I know it's a tough thing to believe, but I'm telling you the God's honest truth."

"The people in Fate aren't human. Funny, they sure as hell looked human." Especially the Lark men. Great-looking humans, too.

"I said they're not all human. They're part something else, too."

She wasn't getting the joke. Stella didn't joke much, but when she did, the joke was usually pretty good. This joke, however, was anything but funny.

"What are they, sis? Blood-sucking vampires?"

"A few of them are, yes. But most of them are either werewolves or werecats."

An uneasy silence fell between them. Then Maddie couldn't hold it in any longer. Relieved that it actually was a joke, she burst out laughing. "For shit's sake, sis, what a load of crap. You really had me going for a minute. Kind of even scared me. But if that was supposed to be a joke, it wasn't very funny. Stupid, sure, but not funny."

"I'm not trying to be funny. I'm as serious as a heart attack."

How far was Stella willing to take the joke? And why? For now, she'd play along. "Okay, let's say you're telling me the truth. So who do you know who's a werewolf? Shawna?"

"No. Shawna's a werecat, but she's as good as gold." Stella's gaze hadn't shifted from hers. "Maddie, my men are werewolves."

"Okay, let me get this straight. You're telling me that Mike, Danny, and Alex are werewolves. That you're living with three werewolves. Come on, sis, cut it out. The joke's not funny at all."

"It's not a joke. I love three werewolves, and they love me."

Maddie tried hard to laugh it off, yet she realized suddenly that her sister wasn't kidding. She knew it in her gut. "I don't know why you're making this stuff up, but what's next, sis? Are you going to tell me that you're a werewolf, too? Because I know you're as human as I am."

"Not any more I'm not."

Something squeezed inside Maddie's chest.

Aw, shit. She believes what she's saying. Which means it's either true-which is crazy just to consider it-or she's gone insane.

The last thing she wanted to believe was that her sister was crazy. But she couldn't believe the other. Who could? Another option hit her. Was her sister trying to exact some kind of strange revenge because she hadn't really fully forgiven her?

She had to call her bluff. If she did, Stella would laugh and finally admit that it really was a stupid joke taken too far. After all, there was no way her sister was a werewolf.

"Okay. You're a werewolf. So I'm guessing that your men bit you and changed you? Is that how it happened?"

"Yes. Please, Maddie, you have to believe me."

"And as a werewolf, you can change from human to wolf when the full moon comes out?"

"Actually, the full-moon thing is a myth. Werewolves can change anytime they want to. Day or night."

"Well, that's convenient, isn't it?"

"Maddie, I'm telling you the truth. Maybe I should've let the Lark men tell you. If, that is, they turn out to be your mates. It's just that I know how they are."

"And how are they?" How long would she encourage her sister to keep going?

"They're more impetuous than most werewolves. I've heard them say that, as soon as they find the woman they're drawn to, they plan on moving fast. From the way Shawna said they acted around you, I'm thinking they have."

"And they're werewolves, too? Do they have big teeth, the better to bite me with?"

"Damn it, Maddie, for once in your life, listen to me."

"Sis, there's only one way I'm going to believe this nonsense." She arched her eyebrow.

"You want to see me change, don't you?"

"Damn straight. Right here, right now." She'd called her bluff. Now it was Stella's choice to put up or shut up.

"Okay. I will. But you've got to promise me you won't freak out and run. Even when we're in our animal forms, we still know who people are. I wouldn't hurt you as a wolf any more than I'd hurt you as a human. I'm still your sister no matter what form I'm in. Remember that."

"Yeah. Sure. You bet. Just show me."

Stella slipped off the bed and moved several feet away. "Please remember to stay calm."

Despite her conviction that her sister was pulling her leg, Maddie held her breath, anticipation catching the air in her throat. Yet when Stella started taking off her clothes, she had to speak up. "Um, why are you getting undressed?"

Stella opened her eyes, and Maddie would've sworn that the amber had filled even more of her sister's green eyes. She glanced at the overhead light. Surely, it was trick lighting, but then why hadn't her eyes held amber from the moment they'd come into the room?

"I don't want to tear my clothes when my body changes." She smiled, but there was a tremor shaking her lips. "Shifting is hell on clothes."

"I'll bet." Her voice came out weak, fearful.

Stella dropped her T-shirt to the floor then started undoing her jeans. She'd just slid the zipper down when a knock came at the door.

"Yes?" asked Maddie.

Mike Lennox stuck his head around the edge of the door. "Hey, we wanted to see if everything was all right in here." His gaze locked onto Stella. "What's going on?"

"I told her."

Maddie wished she'd been watching Mike for a reaction. By the time she'd shifted her gaze back to him, he'd had time to hide any surprise he might have shown. Instead, his features had hardened.

"Stella, we need to talk."

"Why? She was about to show me...something."

"Stella." His tone proved that it was a demand, not a request.

"Mike, she has to know. You know how the Lark brothers can be."

Maddie studied him, noting the amber in his eyes. What caused it?

"Stella."

Stella snatched up her T-shirt. "I'm sorry, Maddie, but I'll have to show you another time."

This is a bunch of bull. A joke gone way too far.

"Sure. No problem, sis."

Stella strode toward Mike then abruptly turned around. "Look at the eyes, Maddie. They'll have amber in their eyes."

"Damn it, Stella, it's not your place."

"Okay, okay. I'm going." Stella hurried out of the room.

Mike gave Maddie a quick a nod. "You're welcome to stay as long as you like." His eyes lost some of the amber color. "Sharing our home is one thing, but there are other things we won't share. Like I said to Stella, it's not our place."

He wasn't joking. In fact, his tone made what he said sound more like a threat. Should she confront him? "Thanks, Mike. I appreciate it. I promise I won't outstay my welcome. I know she was fooling around."

"Yeah. Sure. That's right. Sleep tight." He closed the door behind him.

She'd sleep tight, all right, but should she leave in the morning? Or was Stella in need of someone from the outside? Were the Lennox men treating her as well as she'd said they were?

If they're not, they're going to have to deal with me. This time she wouldn't let her sister down.

She laughed, trying to force herself into a lighter mood. Werewolves. Yeah, right.
