Blessed Mabon and Happy Fall Equinox!

My Mabon gifts to you are: an exclusive excerpt from SHADOW SILENCE at the end of this newsletter, because you know Whisper Hollow is calling you back! AND...I'm running a Mabon/Fall Equinox contest on my blog--it will run through 9:00 PM on September 22nd so hightail it over to my blog to enter. Enter Contest Here.

Well, it's been one hell of a month so far. Good in many ways, and rough waters in others.

Mercury is retrograde and it's made itself known--thank heavens this round of astrological mayhem ends next week. Samwise ended up in the hospital for a few days--nothing serious we found out, but it played havoc with his system for a little bit. He's on the mend and back at work but sitting in the ICU isn't the way to spend a happy, stress free night! And then a good friend broke her toe in two places. Another friend's been having mega computer issues. Yet another friend ended up in the hospital. And so on and so on. OH, and I just found out that all my blog notifications that I have new posts up have ended up being marked as--you guessed it--SPAM--and have bounced back to me since August 19th. Sooooo...if you like my blog, visit every day or sign up for the RSS feed if you want notifications for now, because the email server is kaput until I figure out what to do. I hope to have this issue fixed soon.

On the good side, I'm writing the tail end of FURY'S MAGIC, which will come out at the beginning of November: I am SO loving her world--and Fury herself. It's so much fun to write in a world that I can have free reign in!

October 4th, I'll be doing a cover reveal on the blog for the last three Otherworld books. I also have a special surprise, starting in November. I will be re-releasing the entire Chintz 'n China series with new covers and yes, they'll be available in e-format! Cover reveals coming soon, this time with covers the way *I* envision them!

I've also started my Year of Trees blog series back up, but at a different location. I'm calling it A Year At Marymoor (park) and every Sunday will be posting new pics. Whee! I missed my Year of Trees posts. It became a gentle ritual each week.

The cats are doing well, and this weekend we celebrated Sam's birthday (and Apple's second birthday). Mabon will be here on the 22nd. My coven/study group I run will be marking the Fall Equinox and welcoming in the autumn with open arms.

So book news this time?

FIRST: The continued response to FURY RISING has been wonderful. Thank you for following me down both this new indie path, and into this new world I've created. I plan on releasing FURY'S MAGIC on/around November 1st--so you won't have long to wait for the second one! This book will not be available for pre-order at this time.

Readers are saying:

  • "I'm not usually into post-apocalyptic stories, but this book is a winner, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series."
  • "Wonderful introduction to what will be a great new series!"
  • "I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! Yasmine never disappoints!"
  • "I truly applaud Yasmine Galenorn for a brilliant first book in a new series."

SECOND: On September 27th, SHADOW SILENCE will be released. This is the second Whisper Hollow Book--and the last book that you'll be able to order signed copies of from Seattle Mystery Bookshop (at least for the foreseeable future). Please make certain to get your orders in now because I'll be doing a book signing there (for the public, yes--I'll be there if you show up!) on OCTOBER 1st at NOON. Please preorder for signed copies by September 25th if you want one.

Note: you cannot reserve or ask for signed copies of my indie work, so please don't ask them for copies of FURY RISING. I've had a long and lovely time with Seattle Mystery Bookshop, and I wish I could offer my indie work through there, but the cost would be prohibitive at this time.

THIRD: On October 31st, I've got a short novelette coming out in TAMING THE VAMPIRE--an anthology containing over 25 authors, all surrounding vampires! My novelette--BLOOD SONG--will be a prequel for my new Bewitching Bedlam series I'll be starting next year! When fun-loving witch Maddy Gallowglass moves to Bedlam to restore an old mansion and turn it into a magical bed-and-breakfast, the last thing she expects is to meet her match in the gorgeous vampire Aegis, a former servant of Apollo. You can preorder TAMING THE VAMPIRE.

So, to answer some questions:

Q: What about SOULJACKER--is it still coming out?

A: Yes. We've had some sticky issues with it, but it's finally slated for a March 7, 2017 release from Diversion Books. I have no cover for it yet.

Q: What about Whisper Hollow?

A: After SHADOW SILENCE is out, I plan on continuing the series with one--maybe two--books a year. I plan on releasing CROW SONG in 2017 and MORRGAN'S BLADE in 2018. Cover releases coming soon!

Q: Why can't we buy your indie work in the store?

A: Because indie work is primarily in e-format, and the POD (Print on Demand) print versions are only available via Amazon and Createspace. So you'll have to order my books online from now on, whether they are e-format or print. But hey--you'll get nice quality copies. The paperbacks are quite a bit more expensive than the e-books (which are a lot cheaper than my usual e-books from traditional publishers), but they will be available for as many of the books as I can make them.

A few other things:

  • Remember, you can also follow me on Bookbub if you want new release/sales blasts for my novels. And check my blog for news, pictures, updates, and contests.
  • Thank you ALL for your support and all the wonderful messages I received about my decision to go indie as an author--I need my readers more than ever now!

And now: An exclusive excerpt from Shadow Silence for you!

As I was zipping the cases shut, I was startled by the door closing behind me. Thinking it was Deev, I said, "You're done already?"

No answer.

Very slowly, I turned, cautiously peeking over my back shoulder. The door was shut, but there was nobody in the room with me, at least that I could see.

"Who's there?"

No answer. But then the closet door flew open with a bang. I jumped, letting out a little shriek. As used to spirits as I was getting, they still could startle me without going to much trouble. Especially on a day like today, in a house like this one.

"Who's there? What do you want? You know I'm the spirit shaman, right? So talk to me."

Unfortunately, logic and reason didn't always work with ghosts and their ilk. The closet door began to swing wildly, slamming itself closed again and again. I backed away toward the bed, but as I did, the blinds on the window began to roll up and down, just as out of control as the door.

"Stop this. Talk to me if you have something to say. I have no patience for temper tantrums!" I put as much force into the words as I could, hoping to alleviate some of the outburst. It worked about as well as it did on a kid throwing a tantrum. Read: not at all. The door was whipping open and closed so fast that I knew if I tried to dash through it, I could easily get hurt. I shouted for Deev, hoping that he could hear me, but the house was huge and I wasn't sure how well my voice would carry. Come to think of it, was he hearing the door slamming? If so, then why the hell wasn't he up here checking on me? I looked around for something to use as a makeshift wand. Not that I thought it would do me much good--I hadn't even mastered using the tools my grandma Lila left me yet. But if Peggin had anything that I might be able to use to channel energy . . .

And then I saw it. On her dresser, there was a large chunk of quartz crystal. I grabbed it up, surprised by the sudden current that raced through my hands. As I held it out, aiming the cluster of points toward the door as much as I could, I began to whisper the first thing that I could think of, which wasn't exactly a charm, but my heart was definitely behind it, even though my voice was shaky.

"Get the hell out of here, whoever you are. Do you hear me? I'm the spirit shaman of Whisper Hollow and you will listen to me and obey!" I headed toward the swinging door, holding the crystal out, forcing my energy through it.

The door paused for a moment, but then started up again. At that moment, a perfume bottle whirled past my head, skimming past me from the vanity behind me. It barely missed me, crashing against the door as it slammed shut. Furious now, I whirled around.

"Stop this now, or I'll bring the Matriarchs out here and make your existence a living hell. Do you understand me?"
