July 30, 2016

Well, it's newsletter time again. This year they've been a bit sporadic because of all the changes I've been making but things are finally getting sorted out. I have a special surprise for you below, but read through the whole thing first!

Summer has been rather nice here, a huge change from last year when it was hot-hot-hot, horrid heat for the Pacific Northwest. We're having warm-and a few hot-days, but nothing like last year's nightmare. The flowers this spring and summer have been blooming like crazy-the roses, foxglove (most of which were volunteers, but I love them so they get to stay), hydrangeas-they've all been absolutely lovely.

I've noticed, however, that the rowan berries on my rowan trees changed color early, and there are some trees around already starting to change color. Early autumn? Maybe. I wouldn't object, but this is noticeably earlier than usual.

So book news...

FIRST: The response to FURY RISING has been incredible and I'm very grateful for my readers' support in following me down both this new indie path, and into this new world I've created. I've been hearing wonderful comments about FURY RISING and am thrilled that people are loving it so much. I plan on releasing FURY'S MAGIC on/around November 15th-so you don't have long to wait for the second one! This book will not be available for pre-order at this time.

Alyssa Day, New York Times Bestselling Author, says: "Brilliant new urban fantasy series with a fantastic, gutsy lead character in Fury! I can't wait for book 2."

Readers are saying:

  • "I'm not usually into post-apocalyptic stories, but this book is a winner, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series."
  • "Wonderful introduction to what will be a great new series!"
  • "I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! Yasmine never disappoints!"
  • "I truly applaud Yasmine Galenorn for a brilliant first book in a new series."

SECOND: Next week, FLIGHT FROM MAYHEM, the second Fly By Night novel will be released!

Please note: This will be the second to last book you will be able to pre-order signed copies of from Seattle Mystery Bookshop. SHADOW SILENCE will be the last one. So if you want a signed copy of FLIGHT FROM MAYHEM, please reserve your copy from Seattle Mystery Bookshop now to ensure they have enough copies. I've had a long and lovely time with Seattle Mystery Bookshop, and I wish I could offer my indie work through there, but the cost would be prohibitive.

THIRD: I've discounted (permanently) TALES FROM OTHERWORLD to be a 99!

FOURTH: I've had a lot of questions about several things so am answering a couple here:

Q: What about Otherworld?

A: Well, I will be releasing the last three Otherworld books myself, rather than through Diversion Books. I will still be aiming for releases in 2017, 2018, 2019. In fact, I have plans to release MOON SHIMMERS (Camille's book--#19), on January 10th. I have the MOST GORGEOUS covers made for these books, and though the reveal is a little bit away, I will tell you they're lovely. I'm very happy. If I couldn't have Tony's covers-well, I found the next best. I'm thrilled with the way they came out and hope you will be, too. The other two books will be called: HARVEST SONG (Delilah), and BLOOD BONDS (Menolly).

Q: What about SOULJACKER-is it still coming out?

A: Yes. We've had some sticky issues with it, but it's finally slated for a March 2017 release from Diversion Books. I have no cover for it yet.

Q: What about Whisper Hollow?

A: After SHADOW SILENCE is out, I do plan on continuing the series with one book a year for now. I plan on releasing CROW SONG in 2017.

Q: Why can't we buy your indie work in the store?

A: Because indie work is primarily in e-format, and the POD (Print on Demand) print versions are only available via Amazon and Createspace. So you'll have to order my books online from now on, whether they are e-format or print. But hey-you'll get nice quality copies. They are more expensive than the e-books, but they will be available for as many of the books as I can make them.

A few other things:

  • Remember, you can also follow me on Bookbub if you want new release/sales blasts for my novels. And sign up for my blog if you want to hear from me on a several-times a week basis.
  • Thank you ALL for your support and all the wonderful messages I received about my decision to go indie as an author-I need my readers more than ever now!
Now, as a surprise-I'm enclosing a brief excerpt from FLIGHT FROM MAYHEM!:

I thought about what she said, then thought back to the cat in my apartment. Marlene's cat. Which meant . . . I made a decision right there. "Marlene's cat-Snookums. He's homeless now unless . . ."

"We can't give him to a shelter-I don't trust them and he'd be too confused." Bette kept her eyes on the road, but I could tell the wheels were turning. "Either you or I take him. I just worry about living on a houseboat. And there's my smoking, you know . . ."

I knew when I was being played. But I also couldn't stomach the thought of the poor creature being stuck in a cage. I knew what that was like, and Snookums wouldn't understand. "Right, which didn't bother you earlier. But never mind. All right, I guess I have a cat. But if he eats my fish, I'm going to be awfully pissed."

"He won't eat your fish. Not if you don't let him get to them. That aquarium of yours has bulletproof glass, doesn't it?" She let out a snort.

"Don't push it. It's strong, but . . . you never know. Snookums should be fine, except for the fact that I've never had a cat and I have no idea what to do for him. You're going to have to clue me in on how to take care of him. And you get to buy the cat toys. You're his godmother, like it or not."

Despite the fact that she had reeled me in, hook, line, and sinker, I was actually a little excited. Getting a cat seemed a very human thing to do, and I was trying to assimilate as much as I could. Plus, I had to admit, since Chai had moved in, I was a lot happier. I hadn't realized just how lonely I had been, and while I liked my space, having somebody around to talk to could be a good thing. And unlike Chai, Snookums wouldn't talk my ear off and I could tell him all my secrets without the danger of him betraying me.

"You're gonna love the little guy. He's a sweetheart. Make a list of what we picked up for him and I'll get whatever else he needs and bring it over later."

"No, you don't-not without me. If I'm going to have a cat, I want to pick out some of the stuff. But you can go with me and show me what I need."

And so we play-argued all the way back to the office.
