July 2016

Here in Royal Oak, Michigan, it's only July, but it looks like late summer. Except in one place, my tall ferns have fallen over and turned to powder. Almost all of the geraniums have dried up. I had to replant my window box. But-good news-the purple coneflowers are gorgeous, and my giant tiger lily, taller than I am, is blooming. I just took a picture of it that shows how tall it is.

The goldenrod is flourishing and I look forward to its color in the fall when the flowers in containers have faded. I read that it's an invasive plant-in other words, a pest-but I like it.

July's big news, aside from the release of The Mists of Huron Court, is my publisher's first major promotion. For the entire month of July, Darkness at Foxglove Corners, the e-book, will be free on CreateSpace. I had trouble getting to this site until a friend suggested that I google CreateSpace. Store.

Darkness of Foxglove Corners was the first book in my Foxglove Corners series. Actually it was my first published novel. Originally published by Five Star and reprinted by Wings ePress, along with the rest of the series, it was never intended to be part of a series. When I finished it, I wanted to explore the presence of fox hunters in Foxglove Corners. Thus Cry for the Fox had its beginning.

If you haven't read Darkness at Foxglove Corners, now's your chance.

Some readers have told me that Jennet has changed from the young woman who moved to Foxglove Corners with her collie and met a handsome deputy sheriff and a mysterious neighbor. I can't see it, but you can judge for yourself.

About thirty Wings authors have participated in this promotion, so while you're ordering Darkness at Foxglove Corners, you may want to see what else appeals to you. The code to type in place of the price is SFREE.

At this point, all of my books will be available for Wings to order on CreateSpace as well as from Amazon and various retail stores. The CreateSpace link is here

I haven't written 'The End' to my work-in-progress, Down a Dark Path, yet, but I've passed 300 pages and am writing the final scenes this week. I wouldn't be surprised if I finished this weekend.

For those of you who have already read The Mists of Huron Court or are about to, this story, while it can be read independently, picks up some of the threads I left untied in Mists.

It's strange to be writing about a snowstorm on a morning when it is already hot and humid early in the morning, but that's our summer, 2016. I'm rarely able to coordinate my fiction with the current weather.

I love both of these books and even the cover, designed by Trisha Fitzgerald. It's beautiful, and it captures the spirit of the book as few covers can. I'm going to have it framed.

I'd like to remind my readers that they can reach me more quickly on [email protected], although I've decided to keep the AOL accounts active.

That's all the news for July except that summer is going by too quickly, as always. Enjoy it while it lasts, even the heat waves.
