May 2015

Dear Reader ,

A big springtime hello and welcome to my redesigned newsletter! My website is redesigned, too, so come check it out!

I'm thrilled to have you here, and I hope you'll enjoy the tidbits I'll be bringing you! Oh, and Happy belated May Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Mother's Day. And if you were born in May, Happy Birthday!

New Genre, New Look!

Cue the fanfare music and take a gander at the sidebar! That's the cover for my first ever cozy mystery, Basket Case! Isn't the art awesome? The book is a Silver Six Crafting Mystery releasing on September 1st from Berkley Prime Crime. It'll be available in paperback and e-book, and is open for preorder now. (There may even be a discount on the e-version!)

I'm beyond excited about this series, and here are a few reasons why!

  • The series is set in my Dad's home state, Arkansas.
  • A funny thing happened to me in Magnolia, Arkansas, and I used a fictionalized version of the incident and the town in Basket Case.
  • I get to write characters I'd like to know in a southern small town setting where I could live. Okay, maybe I'd need a Starbucks in Lilyvale, but not much else!

To learn more about the inspiration and setting for the new series, please check the Fun Facts & Photos page on my website. You'll also see what else I'm up to there. Meantime, if you like mysteries, I hope you'll enjoy the first adventures of Nixy and the Silver Six.

Small Towns and Spring Festival Fun

Although St. Augustine's many spring art and food festival season is over, we anticipate more events leading to St. Augustine's 450th Birthday Celebration this year! Spanish royalty may even visit for the Sept. 8 party, and wouldn't that be amazing?

Meantime, Magnolia, AR is set to host their annual Magnolia Blossom Festival and World Championship Steak Cook-Off on May 15 & 16. With the annual Art Show and some awesome music performances, too, this weekend will offer fun to every age! FMI, visit http://www.blossomfestival.org

Basket Case Blurb
When Leslee "Nixy" Nix visits her aunt in Lilyvale, Arkansas, she fears basket-weaving Sherry Mae may have dementia. Instead, Nixy finds Sherry and her five housemates perfectly competent, and battling an obnoxious real estate developer who wants Sherry Mae's ancestral home and land at any cost.

Nixy plans to resolve the crisis, then return to her life in Houston-until the woman is found dead in the family cemetery. Now Nixy must rally the Six to prove Sherry Mae is innocent of murder-a move that defies handsome police detective Eric Shoar, and puts Nixy and the Six in the killer's sights.

Y'all Come Back!
Thanks so much for being with me, and stay tuned for a peek at Chapter One coming in June, plus swag fun and a giveaway!
