What a crazy summer it's been! First, I'd like to welcome you to the first solo newsletter for Cathy Clamp! All of you may have already heard this from the Cie side, but as of August, we are officially no longer a writing team.

Writing partnerships form in all different ways. Many writers have solo careers before they team up and some continue to write solo novels even while working as part of a team. But some partnerships are partnerships from the start, and that was the case with Cie and I. Right from the beginning, we clicked as a team, and we wrote amazing books together, including several national bestsellers. In the past ten years, we wrote almost twenty novels together. The Tales of the Sazi series, the Thrall trilogy, the Blood Singer series (as Cat Adams) and several stand-alone books. But there are so many stories to tell that we simply can't keep working on them together and keep them all straight.

For those of you who loved the Sazi, you're in the right place! The Sazi are back and there will be at least three books in a brand new series. I was the lead author on most of the original series, which is why I'll continue them. I hope you will want more of them, to keep the Sazi going strong. My newsletters will continue with information about that series, along with new series I'm developing.

The Blood Singer series will also continue with Cie at the helm, so information about that series will be in her own newsletter.

So, let's get started! First the news : The official name of the new series will be "The Sazi of Luna Lake." The town of Luna Lake is set in northeastern Washington State, near a crescent shaped lake. For those of you in that part of the world, it's near the real-world town of Republic, about 2 hours east of Spokane. The first book is called FORBIDDEN and will release in early 2015.

Here's the background story of how Luna Lake came to be:

Ten years have passed in the reality since the events of Serpent Moon. Many of the characters that you came to love in the old series will reappear eventually in this new world, but you'll meet many new people who were just children when the drug that removed the magical shapeshifting abilities of the Sazi, called "the cure" caused havoc among Wolven and the Sazi Council.

The cure has become "the plague" to those who survived, a term that can be used freely around humans, because the thousands of deaths around the globe were spun into a tale of biological terrorism that made every front page. The world simply couldn't help but notice. It taxed the limits and imagination of Wolven and the Council hierarchy to keep the press from digging too deep. But thankfully, the sheer scope of the massacres of men, women and children, and the random nature of the attacks by "cells of multinational terrorists" helped keep the secret of the Sazi . . . barely.

Government investigations quietly died behind closed doors due to timely intervention of those still in power.

Families worked to salve the physical and emotional wounds of surviving parents and children, sisters and brothers. Orphans were gathered together and closely guarded to ensure their survival. Luna Lake began as one of the secure emergency compounds to protect those who remained. Set deep in the forest of northeastern Washington State near a crescent shaped lake, Sazi of all species went there, expecting it would be a temporary refugee camp-a place to hide and lick their wounds. But they discovered something they didn't expect. They found peace from the horror of the plague and the threat of attack from enemies. They found plenty of food, fresh air to fly in and space to run.

The compound began as a melting pot of the injured and desperate. But it soon became a colony and then a town. It became home.

But secrets abound, as well. Not everybody is who they seem. Like the old west, the plague created a vehicle for many to escape an old life and create themselves anew. Still, escaping the past seldom changes a person's nature. A predator can't pretend to be prey forever...

Welcome to Luna Lake and a whole new chapter in the Sazi reality!

Next month, you'll get an in-depth profile of the main characters, who are the hero and heroine and the main secondaries (including one character that was created especially for a fan after placing the winning bid of an item I put up at the Brenda Novak auction!)

For those in the Dallas, Texas area, I'm going to be appearing at the FenCon SF convention in Addison at the Crowne Plaza this month. If you're in the neighborhood, drop by and chat with me about the new world!

I'm also looking for one (or more) fans of the Sazi to help me craft the heroine for book 2. Rachel Washington is a lovely African-American heroine who hails from Detroit's Eight-Mile. She's tough, smart and clever. She's also one of the kidnap victims of Nasil in the original series and has had a rough life. Help me give her the romance she deserves and find an end to the terror she's lived for the past decade. If you want to help, email me. Who knows, if you're from the area, you might even appear in the book!

I just got word from the lovely people at Tor that the original series will be re-issued in trade paperback size! They'll even have the names switched on the front so that all of the books will be under "Cathy Clamp and C.T. Adams". That way, you'll be able to find them on the same shelves as the new ones, but in the Science Fiction/Fantasy section, rather than the Romance shelves. But never fear, nothing is changing other than the shelf. You'll still get the same terrific mix of urban fantasy and romance that you've come to expect from the Sazi.

Soon on the horizon is a brand new shiny website for my solo works. It's being designed now and I hope to launch it later this year. For the moment, I'll keep updating our current site with news about the new books.

In other news, for those of you who never got a chance to read the Thrall series, book 1, Touch of Evil, will be re-released in October. Nothing like creepy sentient vampires for Halloween! Plus, who doesn't love a handsome firefighter hero? Pick it up and fall in love with Kate and Tom all over again!

And last, but certainly not least, it's contest time! In honor of this new solo direction, I'll be giving one (a solo!) lucky fan the chance to be the first to read the first three chapters of FORBIDDEN. Send an email to: [email protected] with "Can't wait for FORBIDDEN" as the subject. I'll pick one random person and you'll get a PDF of the first three chapters!

I hope those of you who became fans of the Blood Singer will also stay with my newsletter to discover new worlds I plan to create. There are several new urban fantasy and paranormal romance series planned in the future.

Thanks so much for loving the worlds as much as I do. I can't wait for you to get your hands on the new Sazi world!

Cathy
