February, 2015
Dear Neighbor,

On January 14th the 99th General Assembly was sworn in, ushering in a new legislative session with Governor Rauner bringing his unique ideas to the executive branch of government

On Wednesday, February 4th, Governor Rauner delievered his State of the State Address. After his remarks many of you wrote and called our office with mixed reviews. We encourage you to continue to share your thoughts with us.

The Governor has stated that he intends to slash non-essential services in the budget, but has yet to define what those "non-essential services" are. I spoke about my expectations on Chicago Tonight where I addressed these issues with other state lawmakers.

Representative Feigenholtz (second to right) with three of her colleagues on WTTW's Chicago Tonight.

On Wednesday, February 18th, Governor Rauner will deliver his Budget Address, outlining his plan to close Illinois' $5.7 billion deficit in the FY 2016 budget.

Back in the 12th District, on Saturday, February 21st, I will be hosting a Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Forum with Rep. Ann M. Williams (11th). You will find more information about this event below in this newsletter.

There are many exciting, ambitious and progressive legislative initiatives that the General Assembly will be working on in the next year and we will be sure to keep all of you up-to-date on all of the happenings in Springfield.

For the latest news from Chicago and Springfield, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Please do not hesitate to contact my office if we can be of any assistance to you.

Warmest regards,

LEGISLATIVE SURVEY

The 12th District is a diverse area, which stretches from Lawrence Avenue to Goethe Street. As such, we want to make sure each and every constituent has many opportunities for their voice to be heard.

One way to accomplish this goal is to present a legislative survey at the beginning of each new legislative session. Please take a brief moment to fill out the survey here. It takes just three minutes and will help me continue to represent you and the rest of the 12th District's constituents in the General Assembly.

CONDOMINIUM OMBUDSPERSON
Legislation Signed By Governor

For years, lakefront constituents - along with their building associations and boards - have asked for assistance and, specifically, for a Condominium Ombudsperson.

You asked; we delivered.

House Bill 4204, which I sponsored, was signed into law. The bill establishes the Office of Condominium and Community Ombudsperson

Looking North at the 12th District's many condominium buildings.

The Ombudsperson will provide education and training materials to unit owners; establish standardized complaint procedures to reduce or prevent the severity of problems within condominium associations; and facilitate dispute resolutions between owners and associations.

In short, the Ombudsperson will make condo life easier. We are continuing to work hard on setting this office up so that it will be ready to field your questions when it opens in 2017.

Last year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency made history by announcing that for the first time it will treat carbon as a pollutant. This gives Illinois the chance to move toward cleaner, more reliable and more affordable energy.

We will be discussing the issues at hand and taking your questions.
