Happy Thanksgiving!
November 2013

Dear Neighbor,

Our office wants to extend good wishes to you for a Happy Thanksgiving!

This year, there are many reasons to be thankful --- first, that we have the privilege of serving the residents of the 12th district. Our community has big shoulders and we are endlessly touched by the amount of community involvement demonstrated by our neighbors.

There are several ways our community can 'pay it forward'. First and foremost, let's do our part and shop local this holiday season. Let's help the independent retailers in our community who work to keep the distinct character of our neighborhoods. The details below will show you the path to shopping local and getting more bang for your buck.

Winter has arrived (we know it's not December 21st yet!) and for many having warm clothing = survival. Our office is collecting items to help keep our neighbors warm. On the top of the list: Large and extra-large winter coats for men and women, large gloves, hats, scarves and also personal toiletries. Our office is working with local shelters in our community. If you have any items to spare as you clean out your closet, please email Sarah Travis in my constituent services office.

To help spread some holiday cheer this season, we are also collecting toys for the children at Heartland Pediatric Center in Lakeview. Please consider donating unwrapped toys, books, games, or stuffed animals. Any donations, small or large, can really go a long way to help out local families in need.

Please feel free to contact me or a member of my staff if we can ever be of assistance to you on state matters. You can also follow my office on Facebook and Twitter.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! I look forward to showing you around our new office at our Holiday Open House on December 16th.

Very truly yours,

Sara Feigenholtz
State Representative
12th District

    Legislative Update

Marriage Equality: Marriage equality is finally a reality in Illinois! On November 5th, the House passed a bill that allows all Illinoisans to marry regardless of sexual orientation. Thousands were on hand to witness this monumental bill signing on November 20th, making Illinois the 16th state in the union to recognize same-sex marriage.

Pension Reform: On December 3, 2013, the Illinois House will debate the newly minted pension reform bill that has been crafted by the pension reform conference committee and the four leaders. There is no need to underscore the importance of this long awaited reform which remains the most herculean issue facing all of Illinois. This vote will ultimately be another historic one, but once enacted, will help our state turn the corner and avert financial disaster on our families and vital state programs.

    Fantastic Photos from the Community!

    Braden

These past few weeks of celebrating marriage equality in Illinois have been a whirlwind. I am so glad I had the opportunity to see Braiden Neubecker, my inspiration, after the arc of history bent towards justice.

    Kids

Earlier this month, my staff and I visited local schools around the community to drop off schools supplies in light of recent budget cuts. Thank you to all who donated notebooks, pens and pencils, and cleaning supplies!

    Wow

I had a great time earlier this month connecting with the lovely ladies of WOW. Until next time!
