Reminder: IRS Withholding Requirements for Merchants Take Effect January 1, 2013.

  • Merchants who do not have a tax ID (TIN) on file.
  • Merchants who have an obviously incorrect tax ID. (Not enough digits, all same numbers, etc.)
  • Merchants with tax ID information that does not match IRS records may be subject to backup withholding later in 2013 after 2012 filing process is complete.
  • "Locations with invalid TINs" report is available through your Online Reporting. Contact Sales department if you need help with your online access.
  • Effective immediately GETI will pend merchant applications if the Tax ID is missing or improperly formatted. This policy change will allow the sales office or merchant to supply taxpayer information to eliminate situations of immediate IRS backup withholding on newly boarded merchants.
