A Couple Reminders

We have had some crazy weather the past two weeks with temperatures as high as 62 degrees, but temperatures are expected to get much colder.  Please remember we do go out for recess if the temperature is 25 degrees or higher, so send your child to school prepared for the cold weather.  Also, our lost and found has a bunch of winter coats and hats.  If you are missing any clothing at home, please ask your child to look through the lost and found.

Linking
the Classroom to Home:

Research shows that vocabulary is important to children's development, and is particularly important in reading.  According to studies, children with larger vocabularies have greater achievement in high school, especially reading comprehension.  Below are some ways to help your student improve their vocabulary.
  • Read aloud to your child.  Children learn many words when read aloud not only storybooks, but also nonfiction and other types of informational text.
  • Engage in conversations with your child.  Since children learn lots of words through talk, include new words in meaningful conversations at the dinner table, in the car, or while taking a walk.
  • Use high-level vocabulary in regular interactions.  For example, instead of telling your child what a good job they did, tell them what a superb or sensational job they did.  And be sure to compliment your student when they use the new words!
District Employee of the Month

Congratulations - Mrs. Pence

Cindy Pence is one of the hardest working and dedicated teacher I know. She has taught for the district for 31 years.  She is always willing to help students, parents, and staff.  Mrs. Pence goes above and beyond every single day.  We are lucky to have her as our Title I Reading teacher here at Groveport Elementary!

Gold Slips
Gold Slips are given to students by staff members for many reasons. January Gold Slips will be given for showing the character trait of Responsibility.  Students can demonstrate this trait by being in charge of what they say and do, being accountable for their own learning, and thinking before acting. Students come to the office and put their gold slip in our Treasure Box. Every Friday, Mrs. Bray picks 15 -20 Gold Slips from the Treasure Box and calls those students to the office for a prize. Gold Slip Winners for January 29th - Sam Lowther, Sir Cox, Jacob Barrios, Brandon Hall, Trinity Tinney, Maddie Slosar, Terren Tatum, David Cousart, Reigna Channakhon, Baker Bowden, Mykah Bailey, Amarion Nwokejiobi, Payton Short, Gabe Slonaker, Hayden Thompson, and Kaden Slone - Congratulations!
