Happy Holidays from Groveport Elementary!

Enjoy time with family and friends these next couple weeks.  We look forward to seeing all the students back on January 4, 2016!
Thank You 1st Baptist Church and PTO

The holiday dinner and babysitting for the parents was a big hit.  The dinner the church cooked and served was delicious (turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, noodles, green bean casserole, etc). Students had so much fun at all 3 stations - carnival games, arts and crafts, and sports. I'm sure the parents really enjoyed the free babysitting and a chance to get a little shopping done. Check out the pictures below.

Linking the Classroom to Home:

While reading with your child over the holiday break consider these tips:
  • Look at the cover first and talk about what the book may be about.
  • Discuss what you've read, including any personal connections or interests.
  • Read aloud to your child and re-read favorite stories.
  • Keep reading time enjoyable and relaxed.
  • You are a great role model! Let your child see you reading for enjoyment and information.
  • Assist your child with unknown words by asking questions such as,
     "What would make sense?"
"What do you think that word could be?"
"Does the picture give you any clues?"
  • Help your child sound out words they do not know and it is also okay tell what the word is.
  • Always remember to focus on what your child is doing well and share how proud you are of their effort to become a better reader.
Keeping a journal over the holiday is a worthwhile writing activity. You may want to designate a special notebook just for journal writing.  Don't forget to practice math facts 5 to 10 minutes each day as our Math-a-Thon will continue until January 15th, 2016.  Finally, see on-line activities at websites recommended by your child's teacher.
The Groveport Elementary staff appreciates the enormous support from our families as together we help our children reach their greatest potential!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Gold Slips
Gold Slips are given to students by staff members for many reasons. December Gold Slips will be given for showing the character trait of Caring.  Students can demonstrate this trait by being kind, compassionate, expressing gratitude, helping people in need, and forgiving others. Students come to the office and put their gold slip in our Treasure Box. Every Friday, Mrs. Bray picks 15 -20 Gold Slips from the Treasure Box and calls those students to the office for a prize. Gold Slip Winners for December 11th - Eric Carter, Clay Patton, Joseph Booker, Jacob Barrios, Ryan Welch, Kathleen Slaby, Anyah Taylor, Tavier Williams, Ty Miller, Cerenity Blackburn, Macy Legg, Amelia Robinson, and Byata Di Tommaso - Congratulations!
