Principal's Message
It is hard to believe we are already at the halfway mark for the 2014-15 school year!  The staff at Groveport Elementary thanks you for your continued support.  Report Cards will be sent home with students today.  Please take time to go over your child's progress with them and encourage them to continue to work hard each and every day. We will be having an Awards Assembly next Tuesday to celebrate areas the students did well on this nine weeks. For example, Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, Good Conduct, Bringing up Grades, and Teacher's Choice to name a few.

We look forward to working with everyone during the second half of the year.  As always, contact the school if we can be of any support.

Artist of the Week

Chase Brown

Our 5th graders have been learning about African art. For this project we learned about Kente cloths, which is an important costume or piece of clothing typically worn in Ghana.  Students created their own version of a Kente cloth by printing a line design and cutting paper.  Chase Brown was selected by Mrs. Sperk for his exceptional project. Chase is a 5th grade student in Mrs. Gordon's class. He has been attending Groveport Elementary since kindergarten.  He has an older sister, Kenzie and a younger brother, Tyler.  Chase enjoys basketball, football and track.  He also likes drawing people and animals.  Most of his inspiration comes from television shows. Congratulations Chase for being our Artist of the Week!

Focus on Learning

4th graders in Mrs. Mosure's Social Studies class were studying Native Americans in Ohio. The students decided to choose a group to research and then created a 3D landscape based on how those Native Americans lived. Some of the students created teepees and others created actual houses surrounded by farming areas. They worked very hard and had information on the roles of the men and woman, three interesting facts about their group, how their group lived and facts on what their group ate/hunted.

Positive Conduct Referrals

At times teachers have to write students up for negative behavior that is beyond what can be handled in the classroom.  This year instead of only doing office referrals for negative behaviors, we decide to also include positive write-ups. These Positive Conduct Referrals will be written for students who exhibit good behavior and are a role model to other students.  Kathleen Slaby was chosen by her 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Moore, for always being ready to learn, putting forth her best effort, taking pride in what she does, and for her willingness to help others. Congratulations Kathleen - Keep it up!!
