Principal's Message
Happy Holidays from Groveport Elementary!

Enjoy time with family and friends these next couple weeks.  We look forward to seeing all the students back on January 5, 2015!

Our PTO organized a door decorating contest this month.  There were some very creative doors, but here are the top 3!

1st Place goes to Mrs. Myers - Kindergarten
2nd Place goes to Mrs. Pence and Mrs. Olson - Title I Reading
3rd Place goes to Mrs. Byler - PE

Thank you to all the teachers for participating.  The kids loved the doors and they made our building so festive!  Thanks to the PTO for organizing this event and choosing the winners. I'm sure it wasn't easy - there were so many creative ideas!

Artist of the Week

Jameson Stilson

Our 3rdgraders were introduced to the artist Paul Klee. We discussed his bright and abstract paintings.  We also learned about landscapes and cityscapes.  The students used their imagination to create an abstract land and cityscape.  They colored them using oil pastels.  Jameson Stilson was selected by Mrs. Sperk for his neat and creative project. Jameson is a 3rd grade student in Mrs. Monhollen's class. He has been attending Groveport Elementary since kindergarten.  Jameson has two sisters, Aliya who is in Kindergarten and Megan who is a junior.   He loves football, basketball and art.  In art, his favorite medium is clay.

Congratulations Jameson for being our Artist of the Week!

You Will Be Missed

Mary Olson will be retiring December 19th. She has taught for Groveport Madison Schools for over thirty years. For the past 15 years, she has been the Title I Reading teacher here at Groveport Elementary.

In her retirement, Mary will continue to lead her Bible Study Groups and enjoy time horseback riding. Mary hopes to finish various sewing projects she has started and catch up on her reading.  She looks forward to spending time with her husband and three sons.

We will all miss her very much and wish her the best always!

Thank you MSC students for sharing the stories you wrote with our 3rd graders!
They really enjoyed listening.  Please come and share again.

Thank you to the Pre-School and Kindergarten teachers for planning these activities for the students.  Thank you to the special area teachers for taking the kids caroling through the school.  They really had a special day! An extra special thank you to Barb and Josh from First Baptist Church in Groveport for bringing over toys for the children and volunteering their time all day! We are truly blessed here at GE to have such caring and kind staff and students!
Gold Slips
Gold Slips are given to students by staff members for many reasons. December Gold Slips will be given for  meeting or exceeding MAP Growth Targets and for being a peacemaker. Students come to the office and put their gold slip in our Treasure Box. Every Friday, the Principal picks 15 -20 Gold Slips from the Treasure Box and calls those students to the office for a prize. Here are the Gold Slip Winners from December 12th: Nia Cook, Nick Gomez, Sydney Chandler, Keegan Bailey, Bella Vargo, Jayden Horn, Ta'Myah Colvin, Addyson Johns, Kha'Mya Johnson, Isabella Mollette, J.D.
