SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Want to write a novel? Ready to run a 5k? Feel like coloring? Ever wanted to meet an author? Dying to check out 3D printers?
If only there were a place in town you could do all of these things, right?
Guess what? There is! The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library.
Most events are listed in our quarterly newsletter that's mailed to homes in our taxing district. But sometimes we just can't help ourselves from having a great idea for an event or program and just doing it. So always make sure you check your emails for notiFYI, our enewsletter that allows us to give you the latest and greatest news from KHCPL.
While we offer a variety of services and materials online so you can use KHCPL 24/7/365 from wherever you are, some things you'll only find by stopping by. Like our coloring contest. So when you're out and about, stop in at one of our three locations: KHCPL Main, 220 N. Union St.; KHCPL South, 1755 E. Center Road; or KHCPL Russiaville, 315 Mesa Drive.
You'll be glad you did! For more information about what we've hinted about, READ ON!!!

WHAT THE HECK IS NANOWRIMO?
November is National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo. Since 1999, NaNoWriMo participants have been able to get 250 books published traditionally, including Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus, Hugh Howey's Wool, Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Jason Hough's The Darwin Elevator, and Marissa Meyer's Cinder. NaNoWriMo is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On Nov. 1, participants begin working toward the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30. NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel. More and more libraries are opening their doors to writers by creating Come Write In! Centers, providing a dedicated place for authors to write and connect, and we've decided to do that as well.
KHCPL's Come Write In! Center will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. every Sunday in November at KHCPL South.
The benefit of coming to KHCPL to work on your novel is that there will be other authors here, if you want to bounce your plot, pacing, characters, and dialogue ideas off of others. Plus, we have a number of reference materials and will have several of them in the Come Write In! Center. We're also printing off a list of some of the best materials we have for writers.
Click here for more details, and check out our Facebook page every day for NaNoWriMo helpful tips. #nanowrimo

COLOR YOUR WORLD
No need to hide your passion for coloring anymore if you're a grownup. The benefits of coloring are touted everywhere these days. It helps you focus and reduces stress, among other things. What adult doesn't need that, right?
KHCPL is bringing coloring back for adults! So head to any KHCPL location to pick up FREE coloring pages. We've purchased several books and received permission, courtesy of Dover Publications, to copy them. You have lots to choose from, and we're adding more.
We'll have colored pencils for you to use while at the library, too. Or mayb e you have supplies at home to use to color them. Feel free to take them home and color. Whenever you're done, drop them off at any KHCPL location. Adults 18 and older will have a chance to win a basket full of coloring supplies in January, including a set of 72 assorted Prismacolor Premier Double-Ended Art Markers.

A 3D PRINTER - IN 3D! :)
From Ham Radios to 3D Printers
6:30 p.m. * Wednesday, Nov. 11 * KHCPL Main
In Anthony Doerr's novel, All the Light We Cannot See, one of the Top 15 Howard County Reads books for 2015, two of the characters are what would in today's world be described as "Makers." Kokomo has "makers," who are a part of Spirit of Haynes and Apperson in Kokomo, aka SHAK. Join members from SHAK Makerspace for a demonstration with a 3D printer, which produces an object from a digital model. They will be printing thumb book holders for those in attendance. There will also be information available about how you can get involved with SHAK. Click here for more information about SHAK.
