Snap Photos, Have a Chance to WIN!!!

We're proud of our lovely, native plants and we bet you are, too. Show off any native plant(s) you took home from a library event by taking a simple photo and entering the Grow the Solution Together Photo Contest. From now through October 15, take photos as you plant or water them, as they bloom, when pollinators (bees, birds, butterflies, etc.) visit them, during a rain, at sunrise and sunset - any time there's a chance to showcase their natural beauty. Submit them either on the KHCPL Facebook page or via email, in high-resolution JPEG format, to [email protected] starting June 8. KHCPL will feature the top photos in a showing at the Art Gallery at KHCPL Main in November. The Grand Prize photo will also be featured on a KHCPL postcard. Additional photos will also be selected as prize-winners. HERE ARE ALL THE DETAILS.

Welcome to KHCPL'S Grow the Solution Together

Congratulations! By taking a free native plant and/or purchasing native plants at one of the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library's giveaways/sales (or your child bringing one home after a program), you are helping save pollinators - and our food supply! We appreciate your willingness and hard work. Thank you!

We know that you may not have a lot of information about native plants and how to care for them, Grow the Solution Together, or pollinators and the crisis they face. So we're here for you, to help you each step of the way.

Periodically, as we have new information or important tips, we'll touch base with you. In between times, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Lisa Fipps, KHCPL Director of Marketing and Community Engagement. If she doesn't have the answers you need, she'll find them!

If you do know a thing or two about native plants, please feel free to contact Lisa to share tips, suggestions, and success stories.

And we DEFINITELY want to see photos of your plants. How are they doing? Send us photos. You could win a prize!

Keep reading for more details, and thank you again for partnering with KHCPL to save pollinators and make the community aware of what it can do locally to address a global issue.

Grow The Solution Together

Can't make it through the day without coffee? What are your favorite foods? Fruits like apples, strawberries, and avocados? Vegetables like cauliflower, carrots, and celery? Love vanilla? Coconut? How about chocolate? Who doesn't, right? Now imagine not having any of those things. Why? Pollinators (such as bees and butterflies) are dying off. What does a bee or pollen have to do with these foods or your morning cup of Joe? As it turns out, plenty. READ MORE

Resources for Teachers

We asked. You answered. We wanted to know how to make local students aware of the crisis and how to get them involved. Teachers said they'd love to have lesson plans about pollinators. So we've found A NUMBER OF LESSON PLANS AND TEACHER RESOURCES just for you. If you're not a teacher, share this with a teacher or homeschooler.
