On September 29, 2014, PowerCorpsPHL proudly announced its expansion after being selected as a recipient of one of three competitive grants awarded to City of Philadelphia from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to support efforts to reduce youth violence.
The award enables the program to expand by one-third, enrolling 136 corps members annually.

A Big Welcome to Cohort 3
In September, our third round of candidates participated in two weeks of pre-service orientation (PSO), which included an array of training and team building to prepare them for their six-month term of service.
After successfully completing PSO and two weeks of service, candidates were inducted officially as corps members this month. Click here to read about our newest corps members' aspirations and why they are excited to serve.

Peace Day Philly
On Saturday, September 20th, PowerCorpsPHL recognized International Peace Day by joining PhillyRising, Global Citizen and Peace Day Philly organizers in painting the Hawthorne Cultural Center playground, cleaning nearby streets and building picnic tables for Ridgeway Park. Two hundred volunteers supported the event, representing various groups including Town Watch Integrated Services, the 3rd District Police, BuildOn, school groups and the local community.
