Dear ASU Prep Families and Friends:

Welcome back from your fall break. During these breaks and after, we are reminded of the importance of enjoying the special times we have together. We see many of you took this time to enjoy the time you had with your families by the pictures you sent us over the break. (See Below)

One of the key pillars of our success and growth is Partnerships. Our partnerships continue to grow. All our partnerships support our mission at the ASU Preparatory Academy of preparing all of our students to succeed in college, compete globally, and to contribute to their community.  We believe parents are our primary partners in achieving our mission. This is why we are so committed to making sure all of our families fulfill a minimum of 30 credits of service each school year.  Each credit is worth approximately one hour of service, and any family member can contribute to helping your family earn the credits.

There are many ways families can earn credits, including participating in ILP conferences; participating in the PTSO; helping with lunch duty or before and afterschool supervision; volunteering in the front office; chaperoning a field trip; supporting your child in completing homework and class projects; serving as an in-class aide; ensuring your child's perfect attendance; participating in a school committee; and donating approved items.  Families that are actively engaged in their children's education often complete their 30 credits within the first couple of months of the school year.  To find other examples of how you can become engaged in your child's success at our school, please contact your school Director and their staffs.

One of the most important things you can do to help your child succeed at school is to ensure your child arrives at school every day on time and ready to learn. We also recommend you get to know their friends, get involved in their activities; know their teachers; understand what they are doing in school; ask to see their homework and recognize them for their accomplishments.  Preparing all our students to succeed in college is a team effort and we are grateful to each of our outstanding parents.

Another partnership to feature this week is our ongoing partnership with the Arizona Science Center, located in Downtown Phoenix. In the last several newsletters we invited all K-8 students and their families to join us for the ASU Prep's Family Science night that took place yesterday (Friday, 10/17) evening. This fun, free, and family-oriented exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math was hosted by the Az. Science Center and was a private event for us at Poly and the Phoenix campus. Please enjoy these pictures below as well.

Thanks to all our partners. We make a great team! Thank you!

Sincerely,

Your ASU Preparatory Academy Polytechnic Leadership Team

Information Nights and Enrollment Process for 2015-16

ASU Preparatory Academy will hold a series of information nights for families of potential students interested in attending ASU Preparatory Academy next school year.  Our next information night is scheduled for:

  • Thursday, November 6th, 6pm, P -6 Grades @ PES, 7-12 Grades @ PHS
  • More dates may be added if needed.

All of the information nights will start at 6:00pm.  Information nights are an excellent way for families to learn about the new student enrollment process and learn about the ASU Prep curriculum and programs for Kindergarten through high school.

ASU Prep will once again hold two lotteries for potential students who would like to attend ASU Prep for the 2015-2016 school year.  The lottery for Kindergarten and 9th grade will be held on Tuesday, December 9th and the lottery for 1st through 8th grade and 10th through 12th grade will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015.  In order to be included in the lottery, a Lottery Interest Form must be completed for the student and submitted to the ASU Prep office by 12:00pm on the Friday proceeding the lottery date.  The Lottery Interest Form can be obtained in the ASU Prep front office or by going to our ASU Prep. Academy website.  Families of students who completed a lottery interest form for the current school year but who did not get enrolled must complete the new 2015-2016 lottery interest form in order to be included in the lottery for next school year.

Families of current ASU Prep students do not have to go through the lottery process and do not have to complete a lottery interest form.  However, all families of current students who plan on attending ASU Prep for the 2015-2016 school year must complete an Intent to Re-Enroll form and submit it to the ASU Prep office no later than 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 26th.  Current students who do not have an Intent to Re-Enroll form submitted for them by the deadline will lose their spot at ASU Prep for next school year and that spot will be given to a new student through the lottery process.  Please click on this link below to complete the re-enrollment form.

If you know of a family that would like to attend ASU Prep next year, encourage them to attend one of the upcoming information nights and submit a Lottery Interest form by December 5.  If you are a current ASU Prep parent and plan on bringing your child back next school year, make sure you submit an Intent to Re-Enroll form no later than December 5. If a sibling who does not attend ASU Prep this year does not have a filled out Lottery Form, please add them to the Intent to Re-Enroll form under the new sibling only, this is only if the sibling is returning.

"In Case of Emergency" Forms are Due

If you have not already filled out the "In Case of Emergency Form" with your updated information please check this link to do this. This is important for communication purposes between the schools and your families. Please click on the convient link below. Thank you.

Tax Credit Donations - It is Never Too Early

As we think about supporting our students' extracurricular activities, it is also time to start thinking about tax credit donations. Your tax credit donations help support our extracurricular programs.  We look forward to providing more extracurricular programs to further develop our children's interests beyond the classroom, whether they are athletic, artistic, or academic. Your tax credit donations will help us accomplish that goal. To learn more about the tax credit program and to make a contribution, please go to our website or the link embedded in the first page of this newsletter, upper left corner.

A few months ago, Miss Dani Mucino (9thGrade) wrote an essay about what it means for her to follow a "Pathway to STEM." This essay was selected among 300+ essays, allowing her to participate with 25 other high school students in the "BETA Gaming Programming Workshop" presented at Go Daddy in Tempe and sponsored by Intel and Go Daddy on Saturday, October 11.This full day workshop allowed her to learn how to code at Go Daddy's installations and to do some website design with the Go Daddy's team and experience how Goggle Glass works.

At the end of the workshop, the staff from Intel selected the best design and pitch for selling the final product. We are proud that Dani won the first and only prize of the day.  Congratulations to Miss Mucino for representing ASU Prep and for her first prize finish.
