Josh William's GE Teach was featured in Free Technology for Teachers.

Recently, Josh updated GE Teach to use the latest Google Maps API. The latest version provides some helpful options for changing views while retaining the original intent of the site. The purpose of the site is to help teachers develop lessons in which students explore spatial distributions. Watch the video below to see how the latest version of GE Teach works.

The Bee motivates students to learn and study on their own. As a 2014 state champion notes: "My preparation for the bee has taught me good study habits which can be applied in all aspects of life."

GIS Day World Record Mapping Event

Message from: From : Jason Sawle  I  Education Consultant  I  Esri UK

To encourage schools to start thinking about mapping and using ArcGIS Online, Esri UK is running a local to global mapping project during Geography Awareness week in November. The aim is to get as many students as possible mapping data about their local area onto a map in ArcGIS Online that is shared with the world. We want the students to map how they feel about their local environment/neighbourhood and then be able to use ArcGIS Online to map and analyze the results from across the globe. I have put together a Map Journal that explains the principle and provides a little demo of how the mapping will take place. We are also using a MarketPlace App to register schools with the project, so an interesting mashup of Esri tech inside the Map Journal:

We are aiming for 100,000 students to be mapping with ArcGIS Online during Geography Awareness week and we have just over 11,000 registered so far...so a little way to go! Please pass on the link about the project as it would be great to get as wide a group of participants as possible. The one caveat is that the project is only in English at the moment.

Peruvian Gold exhibit at the Irving Arts Center

From October 4 to December 31, 2014,  Irving Arts Center, in partnership with National Geographic, will present an exciting exhibition. Peruvian Gold: Ancient Treasures Unearthed will showcase extraordinary objects from Peru's pre-Inca heritage. This remarkable collection of ancient gold and silver artifacts excavated from Peru's legendary royal tombs will be an incredible educational experience. Many of these artifacts have not been displayed in the United States prior to this exhibition. This is a unique opportunity and will only be exhibiting in Washington, DC and Irving, Texas.
