Issue 43, 9/17/13
Be Creative!
I think creating challenges is fun and has potential for results, so in this issue, I've put together some ideas for individuals to generate money for making donations!
First, designate a donation "jar" in which to deposit money.
Second, decide how much money will go into the jar with each event.
Here are some ideas:
Fall Sports Enthusiasts (especially Duck and Beaver Fans)
When your favorite team scores, put money in the jar. By the end of the season, you'll have a nice amount to donate!
Family Ideas
When your child's team scores for football, soccer, volleyball ( any school sport, any age group) put money in the jar!
When your child takes the initiative to do something without being asked, such as homework, chores, going to bed at a specific time, put money in the jar. You could decide as a family to split the funds in the jar 50/50 and use half for fun and the other half for the family's chosen charity or simply give it all away.
Work Environments
If you're a manager, challenge your team to do something as a group to raise money, and then seek matching funds from other managers or corporate.
Challenge other businesses in your building, or other departments in the company, to raise funds for a certain amount of time. The "team" that raised the most gets the combined total raised and chooses the charity.
Get healthy! The department that logs the most miles walking, cycling, or other activity, wins whatever the wager per mile is and chooses the charity.
Get the idea? You create your own challenge and I'd love to hear what you come up with! Please email me or share your idea on our Facebook page to let us know what you did and how much you raised.
Have fun and raise lots of money to give away!
Best wishes,
JenniferFounder jdurand@impactgrantmaking.com Please share the newsletter to raise even more money!

WOMENSPACE, INC.
A Survivor's Son Tells His Story Through Song
Womenspace is honored to help share the video story of Jobe, a young man who experienced a violent home as a child. His brave mother, Andrea, brought him to our Safe House shelter - some twenty years ago - to begin her journey toward a better life.
Andrea was so overwhelmed with her own trauma, it was hard to know how to help her son. "I think the hardest thing...is that you think you did a terrible job parenting." She was surprised to learn that Jobe still had fond memories of the Safe House. He remembers being excited about our "Kidspace" room and getting to choose from a big box of stuffed animals.
As a musician, he writes and sings about his feelings of that time in their lives, with songs like, "Look for Help from the Ones Who Love You." Andrea recalls, "Womenspace really helped me be there for him."
Jobe's story is all too familiar. But although his songs bring back a frightening past, they also celebrate his mother's strength while fighting to overcome it. As Andrea says, "It's never too late...you're better and stronger than you know."
Courageous, honest, important - Jobe tells of an amazing journey through his music. In the video, his conclusion says it all: "She should be a very proud mother." Thank you Jobe, for truly helping to end the silence around domestic violence.
This is the third in a series of videos focused on the real-life stories of survivors. It was produced for Womenspace by Rick Dancer and broadcast in September on his Sunday afternoon TV show.
