Walk With Us
This week I was enthusiastically contacted by two donors wishing to help support the outreach efforts of a couple nonprofits with proposals on Impact Grantmaking! One donor is committing to support two nonprofits by setting up continual automatic payments.
These donors honed in on what is important and of concern to them in their community. Take a moment and reflect on your values. What is of greatest importance to you? Is it food security? Battered women's shelters or re-engagement into the community from prison - meaning, a second chance? Is it teaching sustainability and economic development, or supporting youth programs? How about education, basic and experiential, or assistance to vulnerable populations, such as the developmentally disabled?
Unfortunately, the list of needs goes on, but, fortunately, we have nonprofit organizations doing the work that we cannot perform ourselves because of our own busy lives. Nonprofits don't accidentally happen; they evolve from the intentions of committed community members and grow from your support.
If we lead by example, we will each contribute to solving problems. Then, instead of leading, we will walk together. Take a step forward and walk with us!
Best wishes,
JenniferFounder jdurand@impactgrantmaking.com

EUGENE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION
The Eugene Public Library Foundation (EPLF) has quietly supported excellent programs and materials at the Eugene Public Library for almost 30 years.
About 4,000 people per day come to the Eugene Public Library. An outstanding library staff helps people of every age do online job searches, write resumes, find vital information, gain computer and literacy skills, find the perfect book, magazine, CD or DVD. People come to access information to help make their hopes and dreams a reality.
The Eugene Public Library Foundation strengthens the programs that over 100,000 library patrons rely on. Summer Reading, Lucky Day Books, Storytime-To-Go, Business Outreach, Outreach to Seniors, online programming, free internet access in all library branches are all programs made possible by Foundation support. Every year, thousands of new books, CDs and DVDs are purchased with funding from the Foundation, providing comprehensive resources for all.
Literacy building in children is a core value of the Foundation. Academic success is the biggest predictor of success in life. Currently, more than half of the children entering kindergarten in Lane County do not have the early literacy skills they need for success in school. The program, Storytime-To-Go, builds early literacy in children attending daycare centers. Trained
volunteers visit childcare centers with bins of materials. They provide story times, and train caregivers to help children build literacy skills.
Through the library's online Homework Center, students of all ages can access resources to support their academic success, including live tutors, all funded by the Foundation and our partners. The Eugene Public Library Foundation is committed to strengthening library programs in children's literacy. We are happy to partner with the library in supporting our schools, teachers, and families.
