A New Approach
As I've been meeting with nonprofit organizations throughout Lane, Linn and Benton Counties, a common problem I frequently hear about, is that the executive director needs help with development work. In many organizations, the executive director not only uses their talent and expertise for creating programs to serve individuals, they also manage their database of valuable donors, and plan out fundraising events. It's clearly not the best use of their time and knowledge, from a program standpoint, but it's needed to retain donors and remind the public that their donations support their work.
A perfect scenario would be that we support our nonprofits without requiring them to spend a lot of money to bring in money. Ideally, these organizations would stay in our sight as worthy programs that make a difference in the community, allowing them to reach the real goal - to help those in need find their way to a better life.
Impact Grantmaking was created to assist executive directors in their development work. We put a proposal online, make it visible to everyone, bring attention to the needs in our community, and build our readership to increase donations to these programs. When a nonprofit posts a proposal and they receive all the funding required to move their program forward, a huge financial burden is released, and money is directed toward programs. In essence, Impact Grantmaking provides development work for several nonprofits, for a fraction of the cost of any type of media.
I hope that someday soon, one of my columns will strike the right chord with you, and you will choose a nonprofit in the newsletter to fund. Every nonprofit that has a proposal posted is hoping that this website and newsletter venue will save their organization hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars in event planning costs, advertising mediums or additional staff expenses.
Best wishes,
Jennifer
