Someday Is Here!
Have you ever said, "Someday I would like to volunteer for XYZ nonprofit and help out with my time and skill"? Well guess what? Someday is here!
Let's take inventory, have you:
Volunteered to help someone - a neighbor, friend or family member?
Volunteered to help a nonprofit - with an event, answering phones, driving, etc.?
Helped someone find nonprofit services - such as a food pantry or shelter?
Made a financial donation to a nonprofit-small, medium, or large?
Given clothing, household goods, furniture, or other items to a nonprofit?
You probably said yes to many of these questions, and I honor your commitment to the community. If you did not say yes to every question, I'll bet they are on your "someday" list, so how about in 2013, you set a goal to check off each of these things, just for the fun of it!
I have never heard anyone regret volunteering to help the needy, so give it a try -- the reward is better than you can imagine, and if you don't have the time, money works too!
Remember the moving words of President John F. Kennedy, "My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!" Insert "community" and go for it!
