Impact Grantmaking
Issue 2 - 12/4/12

Welcome to Impact Grantmaking's Weekly Newsletter!

As we near the end of 2012, many individuals or families, in the spirit of the holiday season, make decisions about giving to organizations that provide services in the community. When it comes to family philanthropy, research indicates that modeling a behavior of giving helps children look beyond themselves in order to recognize need in the community. By donating their time and/or money, children also learn they can make the world a better place. I believe this process helps all individuals develop compassion and become more engaged in their surroundings.

There are youth philanthropy programs in several high schools throughout Oregon with curriculums focused on running mini-foundations. The students learn about reviewing proposals, understanding the needs in the community, and volunteering, and then they come together and determine who to fund. Through this process, the students learn what the impact of their gift will have on individuals.

I invite you to use this newsletter in the same way: review the various proposals for your own information or with your family, consider how your donation will affect the needy in relation to the proposal, then make a donation in any amount and to as many organizations as you can.

Thank you for your willingness to learn about community needs and your consideration in making a donation to these worthy causes. And please share the Impact Grantmaking Newsletter with others so they have the same opportunity to give back to their community in a meaningful way.

Best wishes,
Jennifer
