Attention Juniors!
The American Legion is sponsoring students to attend Boys State and Girls State this summer. These highly respected programs offer young men and women the opportunity to experience the rights, privileges and responsibilities of citizens of the United States by allowing students to participate in legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses, and recreational programs. It also looks great on a college application.  Please contact Mr. Cmaylo, Boys State Participant 1984, with questions or for an application form.
Empowering Voices!
Every four years, something magical and miraculous happens--we get an extra day of life because of Leap Year.  This year, St. Francis took full advantage of that extra time by offering our students a life-altering workshop through Empower Voices, free of charge during the pilot program.  This program is a series of workshops designed to help our students learn practical communication leadership skills that will help them succeed in all areas of their lives.  The program, which started on February 29th, goes through April 28th with a couple of breaks in between for Spring Break.  It is designed as a succession of courses that build upon each other from learning basic speech and communication skills, to active listening, body language, and more.  The instructor, Michael Truong, is a technology veteran in Silicon Valley (for nearly 20 years) and is the President of the Milpitas Toastmasters. He contributes real life experiences to help our Sharks lead happy and successful lives.

"We are extremely excited to be at St. Francis High School because these students are our future, and we want to empower them to become the best that they can be. In all aspects of our lives great communication is critical for standing out and rising up." -Michael Truong

To find out more about the program, please contact Principal Lee.

Get on the Bus
We have extended our deadline to March 14.  We are collecting new brown or white teddy bears and subway gift cards that we will donate to Get on The Bus. These items are given to children who travel by bus to visit their parents who are incarcerated on Mother's and Father's Day.  The Subway gift cards provide them a lunch and the bears give the children comfort and something to remember the day.  Currently we have collected 17 bears, our goal is 50.
Lenten Rice Bowls
Thomas Awiapo spoke to our student body on the power and life changing events that comes from the donations given through Lenten rice bowls.  Mr. Awiapo was a homeless starving ten year old in Africa when Catholic Relief Services took him in.  He is a living example of how donations provided him food and an education.  Today he works for CRS in Africa working to give back and changing the lives of others who go without.  We will continue to collect Rice Bowl donations till March 14.  Every dollar can make a difference.
