From the office of the Assistant Principal of Academics
Hello, Parents and Students!
We are almost half way through the third quarter! At this time of year, we begin to look forward to the scheduling of classes for the 2015-2016 academic year. With this in mind, please review the course selection timeline:
· February 6 - Course Catalog will be posted on the St. Francis website.
· Week of February 9 - Classroom visits to explain the course offerings.
· February 27 - Course selection sheets are due (both hardcopy and electronic).
Please be sure to review the course offerings and course catalog, and return your course selection sheets to the front office by the February 27th deadline. It is vitally important that we receive the course selection sheets in a timely fashion so that we may properly plan for 2015-2016.
All students will be strongly encouraged to take a full, seven period class schedule for 2015-2016. Exceptions will be made for those students taking multiple AP or Honors classes.
We are excited to offer a new addition to the course catalog this year:
· Project Lead the Way - Biomedical Science. This rigorous and relevant four-course sequence allows students to investigate the roles of biomedical professionals as they study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. For more information on this offering, reference the Project Lead the Way website at www.pltw.org.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding course offerings or any academic issues, please feel free to contact me at 831-724-5933 x203 or by email at cmaylo@stfrancishigh.net.
Sincerely,
David M. Cmaylo

From the office of the Assistant Principal of Student Affairs
The winter athletic season is going extremely well for our basketball teams. The men's team is 18-1 and is tied for first place in the very competitive SCCAL. The Sharks, led by Cooper Scherr and Sandor Rene-Rodriguez, are clicking on all cylinders and are positioned to win the league. Women's basketball is competing for a top seed in the SCCAL as well. Coach Randy Braga has the Sharks in the thick of the league race and has a great chance to three-peat as CCS Champions!! Make sure you continue to come out and support your Sharks! Although the winter season is still going strong, spring sports begin on Monday, February 2. Baseball, Golf, Softball, Swimming, and Track and Field will have three days of tryouts and conditioning next week. Students currently participating in a winter sport will be given the same three-day tryout period after their season has completed. Prior to trying out for any team, students must have a completed and current physical on file and need to have completed the baseline concussion test. Any student that has not completed both of these mandatory items will not be allow to practice until they are completed and turned into the office. This year, we will have a freshman baseball team which will play a 12-15 game schedule. The varsity baseball team, which returns eight starters from last year's CCS finalist team, will look to return to the playoffs with plenty of experience and a strong hunger to bring the CCS title to St. Francis. I would like to welcome Arthur Doten and Darlene Friedley to the St. Francis coaching staff. Coach Doten will take over the softball program and has been coaching softball at the high school and travel levels for many years. Coach Friedley will be coaching the swim team and brings experience to our program as a coach and competitive swimmer. The Spring Swing, our 1st annual Athletic Fundraiser Golf Tournament, will be held on April 24th at Spring Hills Golf Course. Golfers can sign up beginning later this month either online or by sending your entry sheet to St. Francis Athletics. Entry fee is $600 for a foursome and a discounted rate of $500 will be available for entries received by March 1st. In addition to great golf, there will be a dinner and a raffle with all proceeds going directly to the St. Francis athletic department. Sponsorship opportunities are available and donations are always accepted. For additional information, please contact me at 724-5933 ext. 202 or at walker@stfrancishigh.net. As always, I thank you all for your continued support of St. Francis Athletics! Yours in Christ, Art Walker Assistant Principal of Student Affairs

From the Counseling Office:
Seniors: Be sure to keep careful track of dates. College acceptance "letters" (e-mails) are beginning to arrive. Read the instructions that come with these notices and keep a file and calendar of deadlines. As you review your acceptances, consider the Financial Aid Award Package that will be sent in April. Consult the financial aid officer at the college of your choice if you have questions or special circumstances regarding your ability to pay. These officials are in a position to consider, verify, and help you with special needs.
Please remember to send/forward a copy of any college acceptance notice to Mrs. Green so that you can be acknowledged during our All School Assemblies and at graduation. It is important that we celebrate each student's successes!
College Placement Tests: The CSU's will be sending information to students in the spring about their English and Math placement tests (ELM & EPT). They will be given on a Saturday in March, April, or May. The UC's will have a "Subject A" writing exam in May. They will send you further information with your acceptance.
Scholarship information and deadlines are posted on the counseling window and announced during morning announcements as they come in. This year, Mrs. Green is sending the information directly to seniors via their Sharks e-mail. Seniors should be checking in with their e-mails and Mrs. Green regularly to obtain new scholarship information.
FAFSA due dates: Jan 1st-March 2nd www.fafsa.gov
Juniors were given the opportunity to sign up for a date for their individual pre-college appointments during the PSAT score review. At this appointment, we will discuss college admissions processes, summer school considerations, and other pre-college admission needs for each individual student.
Juniors have been asked to go into their "Naviance" account to complete their Personality Interest Inventory and their Career Interest Inventory before they come to their scheduled appointment with Ms. Green. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Date/time changes to accommodate parents may be possible; however, the size of this year's junior class precludes a lot of extra openings, especially if you need an after-school appointment time.
If your junior hasn't begun the college search process, now is the time to begin. The websites at www.collegeboard.com/quickstart andwww.Search4College.com offer a variety of resources to begin your college search. If you are planning a vacation during the summer or on break this year, be sure to check out the colleges in that area. Very Important: On Wednesday, February 25, 2015, there will be a College Search Night designed for all juniors and their parents. The program will take place at 6:30pm in the Art Room (E-1) on campus. All junior parents and their students are encouraged to attend.
