Stand Up to Cancer
Helping Maestra Medina
Dear Family and Friends: On Sunday, December 9, 2012, Ms. Stephany Marks will be running the Tucson "Stand Up to Cancer" Marathon in honor of our dear friend and co-worker, Ms. Kate Medina. Some of you may know Kate as a close friend and others may know her better as "Maestra," our amazing Spanish teacher at Saint Francis High School. Most importantly, Kate is known as wife to Luis and "Mom" to Sophie and Isabel.
A few weeks ago, Ms. Medina began complaining of stomach pain, and after several doctors visits and a CT scan, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The next day, Ms. Medina was admitted to the hospital and started her journey to recovery. Life as she knew it changed in an instant. Regardless, Ms. Medina, as she always does with challenges, is facing her cancer head on; she is determined to beat it. "Bring it on!" she says!
If you would like to help Ms. Medina by sponsoring Ms. Marks in running the marathon, we would so appreciate it. I realize that this is a tough economic time for many of us--if you are not able to financially contribute, we know that Ms. Medina feels equally supported by you as you keep her and her family in your prayers during this difficult time. In the meantime, go and visit the website and Ms. Marks will keep running like a maniac! Wish her luck on the 26.2 miles for Maestra Kate! ¡Gracias a todos! Ms. Stephany Marks.

Proven Tool for Academic Excellence!
Daily Tutorial
A critical tool to academic success for students is wise use of the daily "Tutorial" sessions from 2:10 until 3:00 pm. During this period, teachers are in their classrooms and available for individualized help and enrichment. What's more, no extracurricular activities may begin prior to 3:15 PM (e.g., athletic team practices, club meetings, etc.). This will enable every student to attend tutorial without a conflict with another school activity. Students are not required to attend tutorial session. However, all are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity, especially those students who feel they need extra help from a teacher. |
Checking Grades online: Parent Partnership
Edline
To echo what was stated at the September General Parent Meeting with Br. Al Vu, parents are strongly encouraged to partner with the school. One way to do that is to use their Edline accounts and regularly check their students' grades on Edline (Edline.net). Know what your student is doing well, and what s/he needs help with...and follow up with him or her daily. Parents can also keep aware of assignments and other important class-related issues through the "Calendar," "News," and "Content" sections on individual class Edline pages. All students received an orientation in August about the use, and usefulness, of this online program; students can also assist their parents in utilizing their accounts. Grades for each class are updated on Edline on the first and fifteenth of each month, and they can be reviewed at each class' home page in the "Grade Reports" folder under "Contents"; or from "My Content" on the left side of the page in the "Private Reports" section. |
