Rotary Peace
and Understanding
Month

Greetings!

Once you say you're going to settle for second,
that's what happens to you in life.....
John F. Kennedy

Editors Note:  If you thought you missed the May 16th Newsletter, you were not alone. My overworked laptop was too full and needed a transfusion to a larger drive.  All is good now. My apologies about the delay ....Glenn

We want to engage you with more pictures!  (seems that's what our busy Orange Rotarians want)  so some changes were made to give you the fast read!.

Most sections will have an orange colored "Learn More" quick link after the end of each article, designed to give the reader additional information.
Don't forget to click the orange colored link and the photos, like the one below!

This is why You, became a Rotarian.

Massive collection of war letters coming to Chapman University

Historian Andrew Carroll's Legacy Project took off in '98 after 'Dear Abby' ran his request for letters. Now he has over 90,000, some from the Revolutionary War.

Andrew Carroll is best known for creating the Legacy Project, which archives wartime correspondence, and War Letters, which sold more than 300,000 copies and inspired an acclaimed PBS documentary.  Other New York Times bestsellers include Letters of a Nation and Behind the Lines. Carroll's Operation Homecoming inspired an Emmy-winning documentary.  He lives in Washington, D.C.

The Taliban has ended its war on polio vaccination workers and admitted immunization is the only way to protect children from the disease, its leadership said in a statement issued today.
Taliban renounces war on anti-polio workers

The announcement comes just weeks after the Afghan government launched a new campaign to immunise more than eight million children between six months and five years old throughout the country. It said it had trained 46,000 volunteers to conduct the campaign which is funded by the American aid agency USAID, the World Health Organisation and Unicef.
