Greetings!
 | Pres Ron Lacey
|
This Thursday February 7th. Our program will be about the Miss Orange Pageant, introduced by our own Past President John Burt, and Connie Benson will be here to present it.
The following week February 14th will be our special Valentine day Special. Dave Weilmuenster will be bringing the wonderful Barber Shop and Beauty Shop groups to entertain and swoon us, from Vanguard University.
A show of hands will be requested this week to help us determine how many of you will be bringing your sweethearts or friends, employees or other guests with you. This will help Steve Smith to know what kind of guarantee we can give to our caterers. Also, please let Steve know if you will not be there for the same reason. Thank you.
I am still and will continue to promote our goal of 110 to 115 total members before the end of June. Who do you know that should be a Rotarian. Let me or Gary Remland or Cliff Nelson know. We will make the contact and invite them as a guest to the club on your behalf. REMEMBER, when you sponsor a member, you will be reimbursed for the cost of their three meals. The member that sponsors the most new members will receive a $100.00 prize from me which will be applied to your Paul Harris donation for the 2013-2014 year. The second prize for at least 2 sponsorships will be a $50.00 donation applied to your Paul Harris Donation for the 2013-2014 year. Let's keep growing, growing, growing !!! Ron

YOUR ROLE IN ROTARY Thanks for your continued support of the Rotary Foundation. Over half of the Orange Rotary Club members have already completed their commitment for the 2012-2013 year. By the end of March we hope to reach our goal of 100% support of the Every Rotarian Every Year program. As Governor Jim Lorman has said: "To support our Foundation there is no donation of time and resources too small. Each contributes to result in an ocean of help for humanity." You can complete your donation by check payable to The Rotary Foundation or by credit card.
The Rotary Foundation is geared up to implement Rotary's New Vision plan beginning in July 2013, with 6 defined areas of focus:
1. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution 2. Disease prevention and treatment 3. Water and sanitation 4. Maternal and child health 5. Basic education and literacy 6. Economic and community development Each week we'll take a look at one of these areas of Focus.
Disease prevention and treatment
The Foundation enables Rotarians to prevent disease and promote health by:
1. Improving the capacity of local health care professionals
2. Promoting disease prevention programs, with the goal of limiting the
spread of communicable diseases and reducing the incidences of and
complications from non-communicable diseases
3. Enhancing the health infrastructure of local communities
4. Educating and mobilizing communities to help prevent the spread of
major diseases
5. Preventing physical disability resulting from disease or injury
6. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to disease
prevention and treatment

Rotary District 5320 Global Grant Scholarships, 2013-14
The Global Grant Scholarship, formally known as the Ambassadorial Scholarship is the crown jewel of the Foundation of Rotary International. In the world of academia it is looked upon as a most generous and prestigious scholarship program
If we are to follow in the history of such recipients as Paul Volker, former chair of the Federal Reserve, Bill Moyers TV Journalist and more recently Lt. Anthony Lupo, graduate of the U. S. Military Academy and now serving in Pakistan as an intelligence officer, we need your help now.
Despite the fact that we sent you a letter back in November outlining the program and your challenge we have as yet heard nothing from you ... We have no applicants!
Your sources for candidates are your members (no relatives are allowed), their friends and associates who know of university graduating seniors and members of academia of your membership o acquaintance.
We ask that you Presidents and leaders put you prestige on the line with your club and immediately make this a major project of your club.
Please send applications, questions or requests for assistance to
H.W. "Herb" Trumpoldt, Scholarship Committee Chairman @ 4711LibraPlace, Yorba Linda, CA 92886, oryorbaherb@earthlink.net.
In the interests of Rotary's goal of Building World Peace and Understanding through education, we ask your help.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Jim Lorman
