Greetings!
 | Pres Ron Lacey
|
Our own Bill Steiner brings us his son Scott Steiner as our speaker this Thursday.
He will be speaking and enlightening us about the roll of our Orange County Grand Jury. For many of us there is very little known about this Grand Jury, so this is our opportunity to learn about it, what it does and how it goes about during it's job. Come and learn, and bring a friend to this interesting program.
We will also have our election of Directors and officers this week. Your club needs your participation for this important event.
Finally, this week we will have the fun of being assigned to special tables for lunch giving us the opportunity to enjoy fellowship with other than our customary fellow Rotarians. Who know, perhaps you will make a new friend. Help our Red Badgers get to know you better as well. This will be a great week, Come, Vote, Enjoy. Ron

Today's Program: Orange County Grand Jury
Superior Court Judge Scott Steiner
In his role as a Superior Court Judge, Scott will present a program on the Orange County Grand
Jury. He will explain the qualifications for service, application procedure, length of service and the responsibilities of the Grand Jury. This will focus on both the role of the Grand Jury in
criminal matters as well as the responsibilities of the Grand Jury for government oversight.
Scott was the youngest elected Superior Court Judge when he was elected in June, 2010. In his first year as a Judge he conducted approximately 25 criminal trials and dealt with other legal matters that came before the Superior Court. Presently he runs the Master Calendar at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. This involves accepting pleas, assigning cases for trial to other judges, dealing with probation violations, remanding offenders into custody and a variety of other legal matters.
Scott graduated from the University of California, Irvine as a political science major. He attended law school at the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco.
Subsequently he received a Master's Degree in Law from Chapman University. He currently is an Adjunct Professor at Chapman Law School teaching California Evidence and Consitutional Criminal Procedure.
As a prosecutor for eleven years, Scott had a variety of assignments including all hate crimes prosecution in Orange County and assignment to the Gang Unit. He is married and has two daughters, age 6 and 20 months.

Rotary condemns attacks targeting polio vaccinators in Pakistan
By Robert S. Scott,
chair of the International PolioPlus Committee
Rotary International joins the Government of Pakistan and our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in condemning the recent attacks that have killed and wounded health workers in Pakistan.
The shooting victims are among the thousands of health workers and volunteers - including members of Pakistan's 151 Rotary clubs - who are committed to saving children by stopping the transmission of polio in Pakistan, one of three countries where the crippling virus remains endemic.
The attacks prompted the Government of Pakistan to temporarily suspend the vaccination campaign due to concerns over the safety of health workers.
Rotary is deeply concerned that such attacks deprive at-risk children of basic life-saving health care services, including polio vaccinations. I know that Pakistani Rotarians, supported by Rotary members worldwide, will continue to do their utmost to create a safe environment so that these dedicated health workers can reach the nation's most vulnerable children with vaccinations and other vital health interventions.
Polio eradication has been Rotary's highest priority since 1985, and we are on the brink of making history by beating polio once and for all.
On behalf of Rotary's 1.2 million members, representing 34,000 clubs in 200 countries and areas, I extend our deepest sympathy to the families of the victims. Their dedication and sacrifice further inspire us to continue moving forward toward our goal of a polio-free world.
