What's New at Child's Play
Sandbox Summit 2016, at the MIT Media Lab

This month marked Child's Play Communications' second visit to Sandbox Summit, an intriguing gathering at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, MA that creates a forum for thought-provoking conversation around the intersection of play, technology and learning. The goal is to ensure that the next generation of players becomes active innovators, rather than passive users, of technology.
Among the highlights:
  • Google's Head of Gaming kicked off with the question: How would you feel about a (theoretical) implant that immediately brought forgotten information to mind?
  • Other speakers underscored the importance of both content and context in determining the impact of play on life skills for children
  • According to one study, kids spend 50% more time online than on TV
  • The time allotted for play varies significantly across the world.

What Does Mom Really Want for Mother's Day 2016?
By Stephanie Azzarone, president, Child's Play Communications

Highlights from the Child's Play Communications Survey, What Does Mom Really Want for Mother's Day, will appear in USA Today on Mother's Day Weekend!
The No. 1 present moms want for Mother's Day 2016 is a handmade gift from their child. But following that? Forget the store-bought greeting cards and flowers: What makes mom happiest is a day off entirely for herself.
As mom-marketing specialists,  Child's Play Communications asked more than 500 moms with children under the age of 18 to choose from a list of 15 popular Mother's Day gift ideas. The greatest number of respondents - 20% of moms - preferred handmade gifts, followed by a day off (12%). Lowest on the list: candy, jewelry and breakfast in bed.
