Two Lakeville Area Public Schools Teachers Selected as Minnesota Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalists
Kenwood Trail Middle School EIPC teacher, Jill Mitzo and Speech Language Pathologist, Pre-Kindergarten teacher, Kim Jirik, are among 33 semifinalists
Lakeville, Minn. - (March 5, 2014) - Congratulations to two Lakeville Area Public Schools Teachers, Jill Mitzo, Kenwood Trail Middle School and Kim Jirik, who have been selected as semi-finalists for the 2014 Minnesota Teacher of the year. A selection panel of 25 community leaders chose the 33 semifinalists from an intial field of 128 candiates from across the sttae. The panel will meet again in late March to select about 10 finalists from among the group of semifinalists. The current Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Megan Olivia Hall, will announce her successor at a banquest on May 4 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bloomington- MInneapolis South in Bloomington, MN.
Education Minnesota, the 70,000-member statewide educators union, organizes and underwtires the Teacher of the Year program. Candidates include pre-kindergaretn through 12th grade teachers from public or private schools. The Minnesota Teacher of the Year Program also receives support from the following organizations: The SMARTer Kids Foundation, the DoubleTree by Hilton Bloomington-Minneapolis South, the Harvard Club of Minnesota Foundation, United Educators Credit Union, McDonald's Restaurants of Minnesota, Teacher Federal Credit Union, Pearson Education and Education Minnesota ESI. Independent School District 194, the Lakeville Area Public Schools, is an award winning school system located in the South Metro of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul Minnesota. The District serves approximately 10,800 students in Dakota County and Scott County, and covers 86 square miles, including most of Lakeville, parts of Burnsville and Elko New Market, and portions of Eureka, Credit River and New Market Townships.
