Another Successful Denver Golf Event!

WSPA's Denver golf outing last week was an amazing success at the beautiful Eagle Bend Golf Club in Aurora, Colorado.

80 golfers assembled on a gorgeous day to hit the links, spend time with industry colleagues and celebrate print.

Prizes were presented to the top three foursomes, longest drives (men's and women's), and closest to the pin.  Regrettably no one won the $10,000 hole in one prize that was sponsored by Federated Insurance.

Special thanks to golf committee leaders Sandi Neuman (Henry Wurst), George Seymour (Spicers) and Dean Hruby (Henry Wurst) as well as to all of our sponsors listed below.

Intuition Versus Research

When it comes to developing content ideas, 88 percent of marketers say they use intuition in regular group meetings, according to Rundown's "2016 Content Report."

The report also shows that 76 percent say ideas are developed during dedicated brainstorming sessions, while 60 percent say content ideas are generated by individual staff members.

Interestingly, 52 percent admit that they don't have a clear understanding of what content works and why.  The report was based on data from a survey of 330 self-identified U.S. content marketers.

Lessons From Lindgren:

Selling Value

Printers have always sold value.  But, the meaning of value has changed.  Before the advent of the internet, print was the core method of getting a message out about a product or service.  Thus value was defined as quality or service, or failing those, price.

When the internet exploded into our lives, clients began to think that it was the core, sometimes the only solution.  In darker moments, so did we.  After an extended dive into the world of emails, websites and spam filters, clients began to realize that there was a problem.  The internet was fabulous for taking the order, but you had to get the prospect's attention and pique their interest.  One could send millions of emails at zero cost, but they were all eaten by spam filters and delete buttons.

But print was still there and it had become better than ever with the power of personalization married to mail lists crafted to likely buyers rather than everyone.  If the client has a product that was distributed in a big box store, it had to say "buy me" to the person walking down the aisle and only printed packaging could do that.  Print brought QR codes and virtual reality making it a two way experience.

All of this meant that the definition of "value" had changed.  It was no longer that our print is better. faster or cheaper than the competition.  It is now that print motivates prospects into being customers.  If we are going to use this new vision for value, we really must understand what the client is selling and the definition of their target market.  Successful print sales is not about selling print, it is about getting sales and profits for the client.

As shared last week,  color has a remarkable effect on the emotions of humans and if you can understand your customer's connections to certain colors, the effectiveness of your brand's marketing message could significantly increase.

We received input on the colors red, orange and yellow.  In this edition, 99 Designs will provide insight into green, blue, purple and pink.

In this and in upcoming editions of E-Connects, 99 Designs will provide insight into what your logo colors represent.

Green - The ultimate in versatility, green isn't linked with many brand personality traits, but it has strong cultural associations.  Are you in finance?  Gardening?  Consider going green.

Blue - The classic king of colors, blue appears in over half of all logos.  As it symbolizes trustworthiness and maturity, true blue will make sure you're taken seriously.

Purple - Where the rainbow gets luxurious.  Paint with purple to appear simultaneously cutting-edge and wise.  There's just a hint of femininity in there too.

Pink - Nothing says "girly" quite like pink.  But it's more versatile than that.  From pastel rose to neon magenta, pick pink for a modern, youthful, luxurious look.

Next edition brown, black, white and gray will be analyzed.

What Will Happen If...

Every workplace should have adequate plans for emergencies that can disrupt business.  One way to assess how smoothly you'll be able to operate in the event of a fire, shooting, or natural disaster is to answer these questions:
  • Do managers know how to locate key people quickly?
  • Have you established procedures for contacting key personnel and their families?
  • Do you have a contingency plan that includes designating back up officers to take responsibility for the organization in case top management is unavailable.

Quote For The Week

"Often we can achieve an even better result when we stumble yet are willing to start over, when we don't give up after a mistake, when something doesn't come easily but we throw ourselves into trying, when we're not afraid to appear less than perfectly polished."
