Dearest Parents,
I hope all of you are doing well and are in great spirits!
God bless all of you and all of our veterans! Join us for All School Mass and our Veterans Day Reception on Wednesday as we pay our respects to those who served.
On Thursday, I am teaching a Veterans Day lesson to the Middle School students in social studies. The students were given a pre-lesson activity in preparation for Thursday's lesson. The lesson will be on serving one's country and done through the lens of one Navy photography mate - Michael D. Dire, my father. He entrusted me with his decommissioned photos from his work during WWII. I used several of his shots in the lesson (all of them appropriate for our children)! He declined the invitation to Mass and to the lesson. I ask you to pray for him and all of our active service personnel and our veterans!
Earlier today we held our fall Open House. It was a great success! The event focused on new parents, but current parents were welcome to attend. We offered a program with a wealth of information, a tour of the school, and Q&A with current parents. The event was planned by the office staff, and spearheaded by Beth Bonczek, Director of Communications; Beth and the rest of the team did a great job! Our BSCS parents, Nicole Delmoro, Lauren Bertsch, Kim Devlin, and Gretchen Seibold provided their perspective on the school program and helped lead tours. Their words were heart-felt and beautifully spoken! Kudos to these wonderful women for their dedication and perspective. Thank you to all of the parents who submitted suggestions for our Open House, and those who submitted thoughts about why you send your children to school here.
We provided prospective parents with this overview of the Top 10 Reasons to Choose BSCS:
- Faith Based Education
- Teacher/Student Ratio
- Strong Academics for 21st Century Learners
- Differentiated Learning
- Teach the Whole Child
- Service Learning
- Extra-curricular and Athletic Opportunities
- Preschool and K - 8th Grade Options
- Safe, Positive & Caring Environment
- Strong, Supportive Community
Prospective families asked great questions of the parents and school staff. They wanted to know things such as teacher/student ratios; personalized/differentiated instruction for extra support; if teachers were one content area experts or if they taught more than one subject; they wanted more examples of how we develop the whole-child; is there full participation on sports teams; the number of preschool classrooms; activities provided in after-care program - to name a few. Prospective families toured the classrooms and viewed real-time instruction. This means in part that we do not stage classroom activities for visitors. We do great work every day in every classroom. There is nothing more rewarding for our school community than to know high level activities and academics are going on each day, therefore, visitors view us at our best!
It is easy to promote a program that we believe in! For me, it is always effortless describing what we do and how we do it each day! Thank you to the parents who have already submitted names for the referral program; if you know an interested family, please send them our way, and fill out a referral form and drop it off at the office.
God bless you and your children.
