Dear Parents,

Have you been outside this past week enjoying the incredible weather we have been blessed with?  I hope you have.

As you know, next Thursday, October 22, 2015 is student-led conferences.  Students are at the heart of the conference model and giving them the opportunity to advocate for their own needs is vital to their self-efficacy and their academic growth.  Teachers will be preparing students for the type of information they will be sharing.   We want you to be ready for conferences too.  Here is what you can expect:
  • At a student-led conference, your child will be contributing to the discussion;
  • Your child will discuss with you his or her progress in each class;
  • Your child will discuss with you his or her academic goals or improvement plans for the remainder of the trimester and for next trimester;
  • After your child has finished, the teacher and you will go over any further questions that you need answered.

While conferences are going on, students who choose to come to school on Thursday will be in their grade-level classes learning about countries and cultures around the world (countries include Mexico, England, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Chile, Italy, Japan, India, Kenya, Australia, Russia, China).  This integrated/cross-curricular unit encompasses Language Arts, Mathematics, Religion, Social Studies, and Science content areas.  The focus of the day's activities will foster an atmosphere of inquiry in the classroom and help students gain a broader appreciation for other peoples of the world and their culture.  Students will be engaged in different activities which will encompass all areas of the curriculum.

Archdiocese of Denver Learning Objectives:
Language Arts: Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: 1.c., 2.a; Speaking & Listening: 1.a, 1.b, 2.a; Writing 1
Grammar 1; Integrations of Knowledge & Ideas: 1, 6; Mathematics: 2.a; Media Literacy: 2.1, 3.1, 3.2, 4.2, 5.1,5.2; Religion: 1.b.3; Science: E.3, E.4; Social Studies: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Children attending school will be excused from class to participate in their conference and then they will return to class.  Specials teachers, substitute teachers and I will be facilitating the classroom learning.

We are excited to join our Archdiocese of Denver sister schools and other public and private schools in conducting the student-led conference model.

God Bless you and your children,
Carla

Spirit of life, I pray that thou wilt continually live within me. May my days be spent neither in waste nor idleness, but planned to use, with the best that is given me. Amen.
