Dear Parents,
I trust that your children had a marvelous start to the school year!
At last Wednesday's Mass, it was so touching to once again be with the students, teachers, and many parents! The children looked happy and radiant. One student said to his teacher, "Dr. C. was really happy to see us..." She was indeed!
One of my favorite times during the week is speaking to the school community after Wednesday Mass! It is a time I spend reflecting on what it means for us to have a personal relationship with Jesus and what that truly means in the lives of our children.
Last week I paralleled Father Chris's homily by reviewing the service component in our school vision statement: Building a foundation for students to use their God-given talents with courage to truly better the lives of others.
I asked the children how we encounter or meet Jesus in service to others (by charitable acts). Many students raised their hands to answer the question. Some of the responses were: be kind to my sister; help my friend when she is sad; share my toys with my brother; welcome the new students; do my chores; and help a homeless person. All in all, they have a firm grasp on what it means to be charitable and serve others.
Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, teachers will be once again guiding the children in setting their weekly goals - one academic, one faith, and one service. Students will work on their goals throughout the week and review them each Friday. I hope you will be reviewing them on Fridays with your children as well.
I am certain our children will continue to develop their heart-felt need to be all they can be academically, faithfully, and selflessly!
In Pope Frances encyclical "The Light of Faith," he writes "our lives become radically open to a love that precedes us, a love that transforms us, from within, and acting in us and through us."
God Bless you and your beautiful children,
Carla
