October 1 is an important date for the MDS 3.0.

This HTS Express Extra provides information you need to know about changes to the MDS COT policy and the MDS 3.0 forms.

Hi-Tech Accommodates New MDS COT Regulation

Effective 10/01/2014, SNFs are allowed to do a Change of Therapy (COT) assessment for a resident who now qualifies for a rehab RUG, and did not qualify as a rehab RUG on the prior assessment.  Please review the CMS memo for details.

When you create a COT with an ARD on or after 10/01/2014, Hi-Tech MDS error checking:

  • Will no longer give an error that the last MDS did not qualify for a rehab score.
  • Will display Warnings that ask you to confirm that the COT would be an appropriate assessment.

Hi-Tech Provides MDS 3.0 Forms Changes Effective October 1, 2014
For MDS with ARDs on or after October 1, 2014 you must use Version 1.12.0 of the MDS form.

Hi-Tech Software has updated our Clinical Records System with these MDS 3.0 form changes. Our MDS processing module will allow you to:
  • Enter, edit, print and submit Version 1.11.2 if the ARD is before October 1, 2014.
  • Enter, print and submit Version 1.12.0 if the ARD is on or after October 1, 2014. This version includes changes to the state-specific Section S used in Maine and California.

At the bottom of a printed MDS 3.0, look for the Version number and date:

  • For ARDs before October 1, 2014:
    Version 1.11.2 Effective 10/01/2013
  • For ARDs on and after October 1, 2014:
    Version 1.12.0 Effective 10/01/2014

CMS Issues Updated RAI Manual

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have released an updated version of the Minimum Data Set 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument manual. The revised manual includes the following changes:

  • Section A has been updated with regard to resident admission/readmission dates.
  • Section S includes new questions. If your state uses a state-specific Section S, check with your state RAI coordinator regarding the changes.
