National Assisted Living Week
The National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) has announced that The Magic of Music is the theme for the 2014 National Assisted Living Week (NALW) to be celebrated September 7-13.

According to NCAL: "The Magic of Music showcases the integral role that music plays in assisted living residences every day. The transformational effect of music continues as individuals age and can provide joy, comfort and in some cases, memories long ago experienced. The powerful connection that music provides to residents, team members, volunteers and families will be celebrated throughout National Assisted Living WeekŪ through events, celebrations and more."

Click to learn more about NALW and access a Planning Guide.

Hi-Tech recognizes NALW in this August Hi-Tech Hi-Five by focusing on five features of our long term care software products that support the operations of Assisted Living Facilities.  Keep reading to learn how you can improve both financial and clinical record-keeping.

Hi-One: Census, Private Billing and Trust Accounting
Use our Census module to track the days that residents live in your facility so you can calculate room charges for the residents' bills.

Our Resident Accounting System also allows you to record and include ancillary charges on the printed bills. You can do Advance Room Billing so that the bill includes the next month's projected monthly charges based on number of days in the month and the current daily rate. When you receive payment, record the Cash Receipts.

Use our Resident Trust Accounting to maintain and report on your residents' personal funds.

Hi-Two: Use Clinical Assessments as an Intake and Ongoing Assessment Tool

Use Hi-Tech Clinical Assessments to evaluate a resident upon admission and at any time during a stay. Assess the resident for areas of risk so you can take preventative measures.

Use the assessment templates provided by Hi-Tech, edit these templates, or build your own based on your resident population. Review assessments for up to five dates so you can spot trends, decline or improvement in areas of risk.

Hi-Three: Track Residents' Activity Preferences and Participation
Magical Music!
Use our Activities module to track the types of activities that your residents enjoy such as musical events, games, art, and exercise. You can include Comments that describe a resident's level of enjoyment, and use that information as a reminder to invite the resident to similar activities. You can also share the resident's activity participation records with loved ones.

Hi-Four: Record and Track Health-Related Events
Use our Events module to record health-related items such as ER visits, falls, infection, flu, etc. You can assign security to the Event module to limit access to the more confidential, health-related Events records. For example, allow only Nursing and Administration to access Events, while all clinical staff can access Activities.

Events reporting allows you to review a specific resident's events or a specific type of event for the entire facility.

Hi-Five: Write Electronic Notes from All Areas of the Resident's Record
Write Electronic Notes
While you document new information through Assessments, Activities, Events and other areas of the resident's record, you can add related information to a resident's Notes.

Record Face Sheet, Nursing and Progress Notes that document residents' care, status, and behavior. Complete and lock a note so it cannot be changed.
