Greetings!

Happy Spring! Our snow is gone and Jeff Hadley's sons, Justin and Jordan, have arrived to sweep up the road sand that accumulated in our driveway and parking lot during our snowy winter. Here they are, hard at work on their spring break!

Speaking of Sand, our New EMR is in the "Sandbox"

Hi-Tech has provided a web link to selected clients allowing them access to our EMR "Sandbox".  This preview database allows participants to use our EMR with fictitious residents and data, and provide us with feedback on functionality and ease-of-use.

We devote this Hi-Five to five features of the EMR that will make your job easier!

Hi-One: Access Consistent Admission Information in One Place
With an EMR, all departments access, update and share a centralized Resident Face Sheet record. Answers to previously-asked questions are available, and each department starts with the questions related to their job.

Demographic information recorded in the Face Sheet automatically populates the resident's MDS 3.0 records and other areas of the EMR with accurate information.

Hi-Two: ICD Diagnosis Codes in Face Sheet and MDS Match Codes on Billing Claims

With an EMR, the nursing and billing staff maintain resident's diagnoses in the same area of the electronic Face Sheet. These codes are input to the MDS 3.0 and bills, which are submitted with current diagnoses that have been reviewed by both departments.

Hi-Three: Flow Sheet Details Accurately Capture the Care Provided
With an EMR, after providing assistance, a care-giver goes immediately to a wall-mounted kiosk or tablet PC to record the level of assistance into the ADL tracking module. The EMR will then:
  • Tabulate ADL responses within the look-back period.
  • Calculate the MDS responses.
  • Input these responses into the MDS 3.0 record.
  • Determine the ADL.

This ensures accurate documentation that supports the MDS and reimbursement.

Hi-Four: MDS 3.0 Records are Submitted On Time
An EMR creates each resident's MDS 3.0 schedule based on payment type, admission date, and current MDS 3.0 ARDs. The EMR will provide alerts that tell you:
  • Whose MDS records are due.
  • If an MDS is approaching its mandatory submission date.
  • If a COT is due, early or late, and if a COT should be combined with a scheduled MDS (for Medicare residents who receive therapy).
Hi-Five: You Need Less Storage Space for Fewer Paper Records
An EMR provides all the storage space you need in a searchable electronic filing system that can be shared among staff members. You can scan images of original documents so that they are readily available on-screen.

You can e-sign MDS records and keep electronic copies rather than print these 30- and 40- page records several times a year.
