Brrrrrrrrrrr!

It has been COLD outside!

While you wait for warmer weather, fix yourself something hot to drink and read this issue of our Hi-Tech Hi-Five to learn about changes and events in long-term care in 2014.

Hi-One: Prepare for 2014 Health Care Observances
We recently provided a client with the link to the AHCA/NCAL Health Care Observances for 2014. He was very grateful to receive a "much better list than anything I had found to date".

We hope you find this calendar useful in planning activities that recognize and educate your residents and staff.

You can record residents' participation in Activities through our Clinical Records System. To learn more, schedule a training session with a Hi-Tech trainer or read the Activities and Events Webinar Instructions.

You can record staff participation in Education Events through the Hi-Tech Human Resources System. Call Hi-Tech to learn more.

Hi-Two: Hi-Tech to Post the 2014 Medicare B Fee Schedule
Hi-Tech will post the 2014 Medicare B Fee Schedule Update to our website by Friday, January 24. The fees are effective as of 1/1/2014.

The update will also change the Medicare B Limitations amounts under Resident Accounting > Libraries > Facility > Accounting Profile > Screen 2. The limitations are now $1920 for PT-ST and $1920 for OT.

We will notify our Update Contacts and Resident Accounting users when the file is available. We request that Update Contacts inform users that the file has been installed and provide them with a copy of the Medicare B Fee Update Memo, which describes actions to take after the file is installed.

For example, if you use the Medicare B Fee Schedule to bill ancillary charges you must run an Ancillary Rate Change to bill Medicare at the correct HCPC rate.

Please review these post-installation instructions here: Medicare B Fee Schedule Memo, or under Update Memos on your Hi-Tech menu after the B Fee Schedule Update has been installed.

Hi-Three: AMA Deletes and Adds CPT Codes

Effective January 1, 2014, the American Medical Association (AMA) inactivated the CPT code 92506 (Evaluation of speech, language, communication, voice, and/or auditory processing) and replaced it with four new evaluation codes that are more specific. These new codes are:

  • 92521 - Evaluation of speech fluency (e.g., stuttering, cluttering)
  • 92522 - Evaluation of speech sound production (e.g., articulation, phonological process, apraxia, dysarthria)
  • 92523 - Evaluation of language comprehension and expression (e.g., receptive and expressive language)
  • 92524 - Behavioral and qualitative analysis of voice and resonance

Each of these codes requires the G HCPC Code.

For more information, please refer to the 2014 AMA CPT code book.

We have advised our Rehab Therapy and Resident Accounting System users to make these code changes to avoid rejected claims.

IMPORTANT: If your facility uses Hi-Tech's Rehab Therapy System and you have completed Speech Therapy Evaluations since 1/1/2014, please refer to the Hi-Tech Support email dated 01/16/14 that advises you to confirm the installation of Patches dated 1/16/14. You must then validate speech therapy time imported to MDS 3.0, Section O, item O400A.

ALSO: Under Resident Accounting, verify that the new codes have the correct Revenue Code, 444, and GN Modifier.

Please contact Hi-Tech Support if you did not receive these emailed instructions.

These code changes are included in the 2014 Medicare B Fee Schedule to be posted to the Hi-Tech website by January 24.

Hi-Four: Hi-Tech to Provide ICD-10 in June 2014
Hi-Tech plans to add ICD-10 processing to our applications in June 2014. The ICD-10 codes will replace the use of the ICD-9 codes on October 1, 2014. During the transition period you will be able to enter both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes in your residents' EMRs.

As part of a ICD-10 implementation project in Maine, Hi-Tech will pilot test submission of claims that include ICD-10 codes.

Hi-Tech will not convert your residents' current ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes. To prepare for that transition, in the Hi-Tech Clinical Records System, select Reporting > Face Sheet Reporting > Resident Diagnosis List to print residents' Current and Resolved ICD-9 diagnosis codes. When the ICD-10 goes into effect, you must research and find the comparable ICD-10 codes. After the June 2014 update is installed you can begin entering ICD-10 codes.

Access ICD-10 Resources in the November 14, 2013 issue of MLN Connects Provider eNews. Learn about the following:

Hi-Five: Create a Wound Care Documentation Form
If you use the Hi-Tech Clinical Records System, you can create a daily Wound Care Documentation Record similar to a MAR or Flow Sheet.  You can use the same process to set up documentation records for Behavior Monitoring, ADLs, Restorative Care or other daily charting.

Contact Hi-Tech to set up a training session or read the instructions for Documentation and Flow Sheets provided on our website under Important Instructions. Please review the list of Important Instructions to learn more about the topics that we present in our Webinars.
