Message from the CEO...

Leadership Training at Lodge Lane

I am continually impressed with the level of programming and collaboration between Federation, our beneficiary agencies and synagogues. This past Sunday's Leadership Training at Lodge Lane Assisted Living was a vivid example of Delaware's inspired leadership. Attendees learned from guest speaker, Jonah Halper, author of "Date Your Donors", including tactical best practices for donor cultivation as well as mission and vision statement exercises.

On Sunday afternoon, Federation's Ben-Gurion Society (a special young leadership group), hosted a program at the Delaware Nature Center featuring former Olympic Canadian Swimmer, Karen James, who shared her story about the 1972 Munich Olympics. Special thanks to BGS Chairs, Lauren and

This week at the Siegel JCC Early Childhood Center (ECC) was "Israel Week". Community Shlicha, Lior Ron, and the wonderful ECC staff held interactive programming with the children.

Federation went to press on the November issue of the Jewish VOICE, our Giving Thanks issue. Printed copies will be mailed on Friday and a digital e-dition will be posted early next week.

Yesterday, Federation and Siegel JCC leadership met with philanthropist, Mort Mandel, who visits Delaware annually. His inspired leadership and investment in our community provides funding of key professional and lay leadership development initiatives. I look forward to Mort's visit every year as he is energizing, engaging and enlightening. One of his
memorable quotes from his book, "It's All Bout Who," that personally resonates with me...

"The success of an organization depends on the people who manage it, inspire it, lead it and build it."
~ Mort Mandel

Voices of the Generations: This is Your Life

November 8, 2014 | 2:00 P.M.

Biggs Museum of American Art, 406 Federal Street, Dover DE 19901

The Biggs Museum (Dover, DE) is proud to host a lecture and screening by Julie Kohner entitled
Voices of the Generations on November 8, 2014 at 2 PM on the museum's first floor .

After the war, the speaker's parents, Hanna and Walter Kohner of Czechoslovakia, were reunited in California where Walter found work on This is Your Life, a popular TV program recounting the lives of guests through surprise visits with their friends and families. Hanna, a survivor of five concentration camps, was featured on a 1953 episode of This is Your Life and made history as the first Holocaust survivor to share her story on American national television.

Julie Kohner will play her mother's episode during this program and discuss the impact of this artistic medium on America's growing understanding of the Holocaust. Her parents went on to write a book about their unique experience of survival and reunion, as debuted on This is Your Life, entitled Hannah and Walter, A Love Story which will also be discussed.
