NEWS & NOTES
Federation's weekly e-news to keep you informed, inspired and connected to Jewish life in Delaware and the Brandywine Valley.

Message from the CEO...

,

This past Sunday, eight women from our community attended the International Lion of Judah Conference (ILOJC) in New York. Community leader and Federation Past-President, Suzanne Barton Grant, was the National ILOJC Co-Chair and Caryl Marcus-Stape received the prestigious Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award, the highest recognition for women in the Federation system. Thanks to
Delegation Chair Michelle Margules for leading the Delaware contingency.

On Monday morning, community leadership representing Federation, our five beneficiary agencies and synagogues from North Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach, met with county, state and federal law enforcement officials for a special Security Briefing. It provided an excellent forum to understand the realities and complexities Jewish institutions face every day. The briefing also solidified the strong safety and security preparations and measures we have in place on the Jewish Community Campus.

On Tuesday, our Community Shlicha, Lior Ron, attended a special dinner at Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth who hosted leadership from Christians United For Israel (CUFI). Special thanks to AKSE Rabbi Steven Saks and Susan Warner from Olive Tree Ministries for coordinating this effort.

On Wednesday I attended two key conference calls - An Israel Action Network Teleconference regarding college campuses and the delegitimization of Israel. College campuses have long been a key arena for attempts by the BDS movement to delegitimize the state of Israel. Following the conflict in Gaza this summer, we expect to see a large spike in anti-Israel activities, particularly in student senate resolutions calling for universities to divest holdings from certain companies doing business with Israel.

The second call,"In the Aftermath of the Ceasefire Agreement with Hamas", featured Ambassador Ron Prosor, Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Hundreds of people dialed in to hear the Ambassador share his experiences advocating for Israel in the UN and reflect on the ramifications for Israel in the aftermath of Operation Protective Edge. Click Here to listen and download a recording of the call.

Later Wednesday afternoon, I attended the one-year anniversary celebration of Lodge Lane Assisted Living. Our community is very fortunate to have a continuum of care from baby to bubbe. Mazal Tov to David Driban, President of the The Kutz Home, Executive Director, Karen Friedman, and The Kutz Home leadership.

Thank you to those who attended last night's Candidates Forum, co-sponsored by Federation's Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC) and the Wilmington Chapter of Hadassah. Special thanks to Forum Moderator/Michael Sigman, JCRC Chair/John Elzufon, JCRC Director/Rabbi Ellen Bernhardt, Candidates Forum Chair/Sandi Townsend, Wilmington Hadassah President/Orly Wallach and Wilmington Chapter of Hadassah for ensuring a seamless program.
