Message from the CEO...

,

Following extensive searches led by the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Security Agency and the Israel Police, the bodies of Eyal Yifrach (19), Gilad Sha'er (16) and Naftali Frenkel (16), who were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on June 12, 2014, were discovered on Monday in the area northwest of Hebron.

Outgoing President Shimon Peres has stated:  "All of Israel bows its head today. For 18 days we hoped and prayed with one voice that we would find the boys safe and well. With this bitter news all of Israel mourns their deaths. Along with our deep sense of loss we remain committed to bringing the terrorists to justice. Our resolve in the fight against terror will only strengthen and we will ensure that murderous terrorism of this sort will not dare to rear its head again."

On Wednesday evening, more than 130 members of our community came together for Remember Our Boys - A Community Memorial in the Siegel JCC auditorium. The program was organized by Federation's Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC) and Delaware Rabbis and Cantors (DERECH). Special thanks to Rabbi Yair Robinson, JCRC Chair John Elzufon and JCRC Director Rabbi Ellen Bernhardt for organizing this program. We also thank Rabbi Peter Grumbacher and Rabbi Brian Eng for their participation as well.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Yifrach, Sha'er and Frenkel families.

May they know no more sorrow and may they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

TOGETHER We Are Federation.

Shabbat Shalom,

Jewish Federations Express Grief and Outrage Over Deaths of Kidnapped Students in Israel

The Jewish Federations of North America and the worldwide Jewish community joined with the State of Israel on Monday in grief and horror following the announcement of the tragic deaths of  Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Fraenkel and Gilad Shaar.

Michael Siegal, Chair of the Jewish Federations Board of Trustees, issued the following statement:

"It is simply unimaginable that anyone could commit such a heinous and despicable act such as this. As Jews, as mothers and fathers, as sons and daughters, and simply as people, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Eyal, Naftali and Gilad at this time. There is no reason - none - why a tragedy like this should have occurred. The Jewish Federations stand alongside our brothers and sisters across the world and in Israel in condemnation of this senseless murder, and we pray that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice."
