This past Sunday evening, Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth held its annual Gala Dinner. Sandye and Jerry Turnauer received the B'tzelem Elokim (in the image of G-d) Award for their tireless efforts to help both individuals and institutions throughout the community. Suzy and Rabbi Peter Grumbacher received the AKSE Jewish Community Award for their longtime leadership of and service to the Delaware Jewish community.

President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority swore in a new government on Monday intended to reunite the West Bank and Gaza Strip after seven years of harsh political and social division. "Today, Abu Mazen said yes to terrorism and no to peace," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said in a statement, using Mr. Abbas's nickname. "The state of Israel will not conduct diplomatic negotiations with a Palestinian government backed by Hamas, a terrorist organization that calls for the destruction of Israel."

On Monday evening, the Siegel JCC Early Childhood Center (ECC) held its Pre-K graduation ceremony in the auditorium. The celebration continued on Tuesday in the courtyard area with proud parents and grandparents. It was wonderful to see the happy children laughing and singing on our campus.

The June edition of the Jewish VOICE was mailed last week and can now be viewed online as well. Please be reminded that July is our annual SHALOM Delaware Guide. Please contact Kathryn Weissenberger for advertising opportunities and more information.

This morning, Federation's Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC) is hosting a Bagels & Briefing on Azerbaijan including a conversation with Rauf Mammodov beginning at 8:30am in the Siegel JCC auditorium. This is a free and open to the community event so I hope to see many of you there.

The Peace Drums Project is a unique interfaith initiative promoting peace among Jewish, Muslim and Christian youth living in the Galilee region of Israel. Its goal is building trust - a trust that will continue into the future and will touch many people. Founded by University of Delaware music professor, Harvey Price, Peace Drums introduces peace-making and reconciliation through the shared activity of a dynamic steel drum band. Jewish Federation of Delaware's JCRC is a proud supporter of this initiative. A Peace Drums Concert Event is taking place on Sunday, June 8th starting at 1:00pm in Elkins Park, PA. Jewish Federations Welcome Israel's New Joint Initiative
June 1, 2014

The Jewish Federations of North America welcomed the decision made by the Government of Israel to approve the Joint Initiative, developed to secure the continuity of the Jewish people. The Government of Israel-World Jewry Initiative, introduced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jewish Agency for Israel Chairman Natan Sharansky, in partnership with Minister Naftali Bennett, is a critically important response to this challenge. Below is a statement from JFNA President and CEO Jerry Silverman.

"The Jewish Federations of North America have been pleased to work alongside many other organizations in the planning, visioning and thinking about how to bring this initiative to the forefront.  Today, the Government of Israel has taken a historic leap forward with the passage of the resolution.

"Throughout history we have seen what we can accomplish when we speak as one voice; and we are looking forward to working with the GOI, Foundations, the Jewish Agency and others to act now and maximize the opportunity we have in front of us."
