Message from the CEO...

"Judaism is not about surviving but thriving." - Rabbi Chuni Vogel

Greetings!,

Thank you to our community volunteers who made a difference DOING GOOD this past Sunday on Good Deeds Day. Our community participated in 12 projects and activities in an effort of tikkun olam.

On Wednesday morning, the Create A Jewish Legacy Cabinet had a meeting to further plans on building an effective endowment program for our Jewish community. Thank you to CJL Chair, Richard Levine, for his ongoing leadership and passion for ensuring the future of Jewish Delaware.

Our JFNA Israel office reports that Wednesday night, southern Israel suffered its heaviest barrage of rockets in over two years. Over ninety rockets were fired from Gaza and over fifty landed in Israeli territory, with eight rockets reported landing in urban areas, including one in the center of Sderot and three intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.

The Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the attacks, threatening that "You haven't yet seen the extent of our capabilities." Netanyahu said that Israel would not stand for attacks during the upcoming Purim festival. "I want to make it clear," he said, "we will hit hard at those who try to destroy our Purim celebrations."

We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.

Tonight, community leadership will join me at UD Hillel to celebrate our sponsored Shabbat. This meaningful experience provides a vivid reminder that our Jewish future remains strong with an engaged next generation. Thanks to UD Hillel President, Steve Eidelman, their Board of Directors and staff for all they do in ensuring that UD Hillel remains the focal point of Jewish student community on campus.

This weekend, nine young adults from our community will be heading to New Orleans for TribeFest, an entertaining, interactive and educational celebration that will draw over 1,500 Jewish young adults (ages 22-45) from across North America. Through presentations by dynamic leaders in politics, entertainment, music, art, food, religion and other aspects of Jewish life, TribeFest will offer attendees many ways to connect to their own Judaism and how they see themselves as part of the community.

TOGETHER We Do Extraordinary Things.

Shabbat Shalom
and Chag Purim Somayach!

6:30 - 9:00 PM

This year's annual Sisterhood Donor Event will be a fantastic dinner and fashion show at DuPont Country Club featuring the fashions of Chico's and White House Black Market!  Tickets are $50/person and include dinner and the fashion show!   Entree options include Chicken Florentine, Potato Crusted Salmon, and a Zucchini Vegetable Pillow!  This is Sisterhood's big fundraiser of the year, so we hope that you will support us!  Bring your friends and family for this fun night out with great friends and family!  You do not need to be a member of Sisterhood or Beth Emeth to attend!  Please also bring a package of new diapers or wipes to the fashion show.  We will be donating these necessary (and fashionable) items to a diaper bank in Delaware for low income families and their babies!

Persistence. The Blossoming of Israel.

People To People International/Delaware Chapter

Tuesday, April 8, 2014

Cokesbury Village, Main Auditorium

7:00 PM

Presented by John Elzufon, Esq.,
Chair of the Jewish Community Relations Committee, Jewish Federation of Delaware

"There's been nothing like it in human history. A small and ancient people loses its land and forgets how to speak its language; wanders defenselessly for hundreds, thousands, of years throughout the world with its God and its sacred books; meets with persecution, violence, dispossession, banishment, mass murder; refuses to give up; refuses to surrender its faith; continues to believe that it will one day be restored to the land it lost; manages in the end, by dint of its own efforts, against all odds, to gather itself from the four corners of the earth and return to that land; learns again to speak the language of its old books; learns again to bear arms and defend itself; wrests its new-old home from the people who had replaced it; entrenches itself; builds; fructifies; fortifies; repulses the enemies surrounding it; grows and prospers in the face of all threats."

Please join People To People for a 30-45 minute presentation on Israel's agricultural developments, medical & IT technologies, social aspects, diversity, education, culture, religious expression, and form of government/democracy.  Question & answer session to follow as well as light refreshments.
