Message from the CEO...

"Leadership demands two kinds of courage: the strength to take a risk, and the humility to admit when a risk fails." - Lord Rabbi Jonathan Sacks

Greetings!,

On Monday, I joined nearly 300 other Jewish communal leaders on a Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) conference call regarding the situation in Ukraine. We heard from JFNA partner agencies who summarized their efforts to assist Ukraine's Jews, stressing the dynamic nature of the situation and their commitment to the safety of the Jewish community and its institutions. They also discussed the integral role that JFNA core unrestricted giving plays in their ability to be ready for any type of emergency. Please find a full recording of the call here

On Wednesday, the Israeli navy captured a ship holding long-range missiles bound for Gaza. The ship originated in Iran and was headed for Sudan. According to the IDF, the ship carried Syrian-made 302M missiles that have a 200 km-range. The missiles were apparently transported from Syria to Iran and thereupon loaded on a cargo ship heading to Port Sudan. Naval commandos boarded the ship without resistance in the Red Sea, 1500km from Israel and brought it to the Port of Eilat. 2014
AIPAC Policy Conference

Delawareans with Senator Tom Carper( D-DE)
Earlier this week, more than 14,000 people including a number of Delawareans traveled to Washington, DC for the 2014 AIPAC Policy Conference, the largest gathering of America's pro-Israel community. The conference highlights the importance of the partnership between the United States and Israel and showcases the two nations' common interests in making the world a better place.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Through demonstrations of groundbreaking Israeli innovations that are saving American lives, keynote speeches by top leaders from both the United States and Israel - such as Secretary of State John Kerry, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) as well as others - emotional and inspiring moments on stage, smaller and more intimate educational sessions, and dynamic interactive exhibits Policy Conference attendees experienced the full scale of pro-Israel activism in just three days.

The conference culminated with the opportunity for delegates to lobby their members of Congress to support legislation that encourages a stronger relationship between the United States and Israel.

Message from our Community Shaliach, Adir Ben Tovim

Shalom friends, Hello Delaware!

I hope all is well and that you are preparing your costumes for Purim. I know that mine will be ready. :)

Two months ago, I began my new role as the Jewish Federation of Delaware's Community Shaliach. In this short amount of time I have already attended many events, taking part in a number of synagogue services, leading classes and activities on Israel, and organized a community tree planting project with Arad, our sister city in Israel.

While I am quickly adjusting to American culture, I still miss Israel very much...(To read more, click here).
