The 2013 PJ Library evaluation is the largest known study of North American families raising Jewish children. It shows an evolution in today's young Jewish families who are embracing new methods of engagement with Jewish religion and culture. Overall, the evaluation findings indicate that PJ Library is effectively engaging families raising Jewish children and increasing the capacity and commitment of community partners to serve those families. Locally, we are reaching more than 280 children in our service area who receive books and music comprised of Jewish content every month. Click here to download the executive summary. I had the pleasure of attending the
Delaware Rabbis and Cantors (DERECH) meeting on Tuesday morning to further collaboration efforts and community building. We look forward to being together as one community on Friday, January 24th for
Federation Shabbat at Congregation Beth Shalom.

Tuesday night,
Voices For Israel, a three-part series co-presented by Federation and Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth, featured David Brog, Executive Director of Christians United for Israel (CUFI). Those in attendance were asked to judge our friends by their actions. Please save the date of our remaining program on Thursday, March 20, 2014, with Sergeant Benjamin Anthony (IDF Reserves), founder of
Our Soldiers Speak, who will discuss, "My Arab-Israeli Conflict".
The
Create A Jewish Legacy held a special program for our partners on Thursday evening entitled, "It Starts With Hello". Special thanks to community leader, Ken Kamm and CJL Manager, Andrea Bock, for leading this educational session. Our
Conversations For Peace group also met Thursday evening to further Israeli-Palestinian discussions thanks to the efforts of Toni & Stuart Young and Mike & Rob Abel.
The
Third Annual Community Game Night, a collaboration between Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth, Congregation Beth Emeth and Congregation Beth Shalom is being held on Saturday night at 7:00pm (see below for more information).
On Sunday afternoon, the
Mega Challah Bake will take place in the Siegel JCC auditorium beginning at 2:00pm. Last year more than 100 women attended and we anticipate an even bigger turnout this year.
Yasher ko'cheich to Rochel Sugarman and her committee for organizing this engaging annual event.
This Sunday evening our
Emerging Leadership Project (ELP) will participate in Federation's "Meet Our Rabbis & Cantors" program to learn about the various movements and histories of our area synagogues in Delaware. Having our local rabbis and cantors sitting at the same table is another example of what makes our community so special and unique.
Please join me in wishing our
University of Delaware Hillel students and staff a safe and meaningful Birthright Israel experience as they depart on Sunday and return on January 23rd.
TOGETHER We Do Extraordinary Things.
