NEWS & NOTES
Federation's weekly e-news to keep you informed, inspired and connected to Jewish life in Delaware and the Brandywine Valley.

Message from the CEO...

Greetings!,

The December issue of the Jewish VOICE dropped on Monday and we hope many of you have already received your copy in the mail. You can also visit our online digital e-dition here. Additional printed copies can be picked up at any of our beneficiary agencies (Albert Einstein Academy, Siegel JCC, Jewish Family Services of Delaware, Kutz Home and UD Hillel) or at any synagogue throughout the state.

Thank you to those community members who participated in #GivingTuesday, a day to make a difference.  Federation's 2013 Annual Campaign is closing in less than 30 days and we still need to raise critical dollars in order to meet our commitments to our local, national and international agencies and partners. If you have not already done so, now is the time! Please contact Federation Development Director, Wendy Berger, to make your tax-deductible donation today or click here to make a secure online donation.

After months of planning and preparation, Federation launched its new website on Wednesday. Please visit www.ShalomDelaware.org to see the vast improvements in simplified content and design. We look forward to your comments and suggestions!

I hope many of you were able to attend Albert Einstein Academy's student production of "Star of (Judah) Wars" on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a wonderful (and creative) way to celebrate Chanukah and see how our community dollars are ensuring the future. Kol HaKavod to AEA Head of School, Jeremy Winaker, the staff, volunteers and students.

Yesterday we were informed that Jewish Federation of Delaware earned a 2013 Top-Rated NonProfit rating from GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of reviews and ratings of nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. This is a great honor, given less than 10% of eligible nonprofits receive this distinction.  For our latest accolade we have YOU to thank for posting so many favorable reviews! Click here to see our overview page.

Later this morning, I will be attending a special session on Donor Retention made possible by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)/Brandywine Chapter. And this evening I hope to see many of you at Temple Beth El for their Friday Night Lecture series featuring Elad Strohmayer, Deputy Consul General to the Consulate General of Israel in Philadelphia, beginning at 7:30pm (see below article for more information).

Our community's young adults are invited to attend a special Tribefest information session on Sunday in the Siegel JCC board room at 2:00pm. Thanks to Jenn and Mitch Steinberg who are serving as Tribefest Chairs and actively recruiting young adults to join them in New Orleans this coming March. Please contact Federation Young Leadership Division Director, Julie James, for more information.

TOGETHER We Do Extraordinary Things!

Nuremberg: Its Lesson For Today

FREE and Open to the Public

The movie, Nuremberg: Its Lessons for Today, will be shown on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, 7:00 p.m., at the Salesianum School, 1801 North Broom Street, in Wilmington. It is being promoted by the St. Thomas More Society, and is free and open to the public. A reception before the film will begin at 6:00 p.m., and there will be a Q&A session after the film.

This film has been released throughout the country to stellar reviews. The Washington Post gave it four stars and called it

"Mesmerizing." The New York Post gave it 3.5 stars and wrote "Powerful. A definitive rebuke to all Holocaust deniers." Made for the U.S. Department of War in 1948 by filmmaker Stuart Schulberg, this historic film about the  first Nuremberg trial was widely shown in Germany but never released in the United States due to political concerns. Sixty-plus years later the viewing of this film is significant for all to see.

The filmmaker's daughter, Sandra Schulberg, has restored the original film. Sandra will be in attendance and will provide commentary about the use of the Nazis' own movies and records to prosecute Nazi war criminals.
